Post subject: | Harry vs. Barry Sanders |
I heard a promo this morning for MJH's interview with Barry Sanders on today's show. I'm wondering how Harry repeatedly calling Barry a quitter is going to be brought up, if at all. Are Mac and Jurko going to bring it up to put Tiny on the spot, or is Harry going to go the infamous "other people say..." route? "Hi, Barry...Harry...you were awesome at Oklahoma State, you were awesome in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, one of the greatest ever to play the position of RB. Some people have suggested that you quit..." Of course, Harry calling someone who played at an elite level in the NFL a quitter when he can't even stick to a simple diet for 3 weeks is absurd...but this could make for compelling radio if done right. I don't think it would be an "ambush" interview like North would do: "I tinks youse a quitter...like most coloreds who try ta get outta workin..." |

Mac will say something to the affect that he hated seeing Barry leave the game (for selfish reasons) because he loved watching Barry play.... |

Harry better step up to the plate here. This guy has such a strong opinion that he constantly feels he must share and furthermore come to his line of thinking on the Sanders Retirement. I expect Mac to throw Harry under the bus if Harry doesn't tell Barry what he really thinks. Here we go Harry. This is your chance to show us what you're truly made of. I have a feeling you'll hide and wuss out. |

His other trick is to crack a bad joke to introduce a "controversial topic" (ya know keep the interviewee at ease), I predict he'll go that route. |

I think Harry will bring it up close to the end of the interview. It's not like he's insulting the guy. Harry's opinion is shared by many other fans as well. The question can be asked in a way that doesn't come off as confrontational or abrasive. I'm sure Tiny will come up with one that sounds more like over the top praise than an insult... |

Which is what he always does. |

I agree with WR. Yesterday, all he did was talk big about how much of a quitter Barry was, going even so far as to say he doesn't finish his last name when signing autographs. Harry's over the top praise for most things is expected. But when he rips somebody as badly and as often as he did Barry yesterday, he's better man up and call him a quitter to his face. Time to walk the walk. |

Is there any doubt Harry will wuss out? I don't understand the angst for him. Other than screwing Detroit on the timing he didn't do anything wrong. |

I don't hate Barry. Sure, he did a shitty thing but its not like the Lions did him any favors surrounding him with talent or anything. I do not expect Harry to say anything, and if thats the case, I do expect Mac and/or Jurko to call him out on it. |

I predict Harry will have an "unexpected" case of the hershey squirts and will be relagated to the men's room during the Barry Sanders interview . |

There should be a massive email attack on critics next week if Harry doesn't puff his chest out about this like he has sans Barry Sanders on the show and just as much attack on Mac and Jurko if they don't bring it up. |

Jurko would be just as guilty as Harry if that were the case. He said that if Harry called him a quitter, he'd 'throw a hot cup of coffee in his eye.' I doubt that all 3 will whimp out tho.. |

Barry doesn't owe nothing to no one. Quit if you wanna. It probably helped the bears, so screw him. Yeah I miss him but I miss Knight Rider too. |

I have no problem with any player in the NFL who doesn't honor his contract. That includes players who hold out for more money and so on. If you can be cut from a team without warning, why should you be expected to put your body on the line when your heart is no longer in the game. No matter what Harry does, I have a feeling he'll get pounded on this board and on Critics next week. If he tries to ask the question in a subtle way, people will say he punked out. If he piles on Barry, he'll be called unprofessional. While I disagree with Harry's position, I expect him to respectfully share his opinion with Barry. |

I'm not sure Rex Grossman honored his contract to be an NFL Quarterback. |

When a player holds out of camp for more loot or threatens to retire all of a sudden, many football experts cry foul. The argument I often hear is that the guy should "honor his contract". This implies that he is not honoring his contract by holding out or retiring 'prematurely'. |

Do you sign players to 1 year deals or can they up and leave a team in the middle of October if they want? |

Isn't that what got Kelly Tilghman in trouble? |

I don't think the question of why did you retire, do you regret your decision, what do you think of your critics etc should be asked. He has answered those questions, why rehash it? I don't expect them to be rude to Barry either and I think that's what bringing it up would be. This does not excuse Harry from being a big puss though. I just hope he is not smarmy during the interview. |

That's like saying you hope winter doesn't come to Chicago. |

The part I caught the guys were ripping off on the "Chris Farley Show" from SNL. Jurko: Remember back in 19whatever when we played you and you had 13 carries for negative yards? Barry: Yeah, i was cold. Jurko: How'd you feel that day? Barry: Laughing, I told whoever the QB was to give me more carries. You guys shut us down that day for sure. Jurko: Yeah, that was awesome. Loose translation. They threw many bouquets and I think Jurko asked the question and Barry danced around it and just said he didn't have the love for the game anymore to play. |
