Let's all raise our glasses and toast the upcoming baseball season. This eternal winter has made a lot of sane people crazy.... crazy people even crazier. Cabin Fever is everywhere. I'm blessed to be getting out of here soon, but will be back fully recharged a week from Monday.

These are challenging, yet rewarding days for me. Impasse on our collective bargaining agreement. Suspensions. Company philosophies. Illness.

Anybody here who attended Friday's Aurora broadcast... thank you. It was one of the warmest, most attentive, supportive crowds for which we've ever performed. Hope to meet more of you in the weeks ahead. I do value this board's opinions and always enjoy "putting a face with a name (or alias)" as people sometimes say to me.

My most dominant thought as I get prepped for a week off is I am lucky to be the "front man" for the band with which I work. J and H are great partners, on and off the air. Zederman is getting better (and he was good from Jump Street) every week and Finji is the best sound man in captivity. As a five-pack, I don't think we've ever been more unified or trusting of each other as we have been recently.

Additionally, I feel good about Carmen sitting in for me... especially in NBA season. JD's ascention.... Hoody getting regular shifts... Silvy and Waddle's growth. Despite any obstacles/distractions/unpleasanties adjacent to 2-6... I am at a very comfortable place in my life. I am a lucky guy both at work and at home. Happiness has been all too often very elusive for me. I've found it a lot lately and it's pretty comfortable.

Have a great week. I doubt 80 degree weather and "down time" will render me unable to check in at some point. Peace.

This thread is going to be very circle jerky but your ALS will love you.

Glad things are well. Have a good vacation. I highly recommend having sex on your balcony at your hotel and on mount haleakala if you will be on Maui.

Thanks for the tip, Spaulding. Is that how you became infused with Little Spaulding? Actually... I think Maui is over-rated. More to do on Oahu. That's just me, maybe.

As for the ALS... I don't need to curry favor among them because they're already with me. It's the undecideds and anti-MJHers I want at a remote and to look behind the curtain.

No I was infused both times in IL.

Oahu is more commercial. Keep it.

I will, thanks. If commercial means snorkeling with amazing marine species in Hamauma Bay... awesome restaurants... scenic drives through rain forests... Pearl Harbor visitation (almost every trip to pay homage to those who served)... the north coast to watch the surfers ride 30-ft waves... the beach... a great workout facility/spa one of the best hotels in the world... I will keep it.

This is a pretty good 'research' website. Just click around on the top to select the island and then on the right.

I've spent about a month on Kauai and Maui on three separate trips.

You can't really go wrong on any island compared to the shit we have here.

Chicago winters suck. I used to think thats just how winter was because I had nothing else to base it on. But after spending 2 winters in Montana (the first of which I was told was extremely cold), I can honestly say those were a cakewalk compared to this crap. I don't know if its the wind or the moisture in the air here or what, but 15 degrees here felt like 5 below out in Bozeman. There were a number of times we walked to the college "barmuda triangle" (3 bars at one intersection) which was about a mile from campus, and as long as you had on a winter coat and a hat you were fine. I'm gonna get out now and take the dog for a walk and enjoy this balmy 34 degrees while I can, because its gonna feel like Antarctica again later on.

Any fishing planned on this trip Mac? My sister and her fiance are thinking of going to Hawaii on thier honeymoon in May '09 and he's a big fisherman. If he's going there, he's gonna deep sea fish so any info you have will be passed along.

Mac, just came back from the big island for honeymoon. My dad is a Hawaii-sauras Rex and knows a lot about it. Get one of the blue books which are all titled something like "Maui Revealed" or "Oahu Revealed" It has a lot of off the beaten trail adventures on them. Show is good but can always be better.

I agree Frank, midwest winters are bad to the bone. I plan to take a trip next February with the wife. It's the worst sports month (after the game) and worst weather month. Now I need to find somewhere to go.

Also, concerige at any resort will have good fishing info.

Mac,

I used to have a client located in the Aloha Tower Marketplace. I spent six weeks on Oahu a couple of years straight. I would work 14 hours a day and watch these tourist bastards (probably very much like you) get off the cruise ships while I was auditing and making someone else rich. I wished that Oahu would sink to the bottom of the ocean. Now that I haven’t been on the engagement for a few years. I miss it. I love Oahu.

If you get a chance, please send me a picture of you swimming with the dolphins at the Kahala Hotel. Nude of course.

Okay, did not enjoy that movie at all, but I heard it did get more interesting toward the end.

Have a great vacation Mac. We thawed out in Ixtapa in January- now we technically should be in the home stretch....

i personally think waimea canyon is boring! it's on the dead side of the island and it's a waste of time. Poipu rocks though! can't get any better than the Hyatt in Poipu!

Went to Maui for a honeymoon. Road to Hana sucked. Hotel and beach rocked. Most of the food was expensive and tasteless.

That's because there is dick to do in Aurora....now that the drive-in is gone.
:P

sounded like a really good crowd.

I highly doubt it surpassed the likes of a crowd at a certain Harry Caray's several Mondays ago..

I went to Hawaii many moons ago, as a graduation gift. It's the most beautiful place on earth. Mac, there's a restaurant there, I think it's called the Crouching Lion Restaurant or something, it's on a mountain that looks like a lion or something. They are supposed to have the best Blue Hawaii drinks, made with crushed ice. At the time I went I was too young to have one, but was told they were great.

Why does that picture not surprise me? Hopefully that kid can either run really fast with a football or has a great jumpshot. If not, I'm sure he has a bright future in street pharmaceuticals (read: selling crack).

Slingin rock, or got a wicked jump shot.

A little late but I can't believe I forgot this...If you are stung by a jellyfish don't let anybody pee on it (unless you really like getting peed on and can't get people to do it otherwise). Urine can actually aggravate the jellyfish's stingers into releasing more venom.
