Mac made reference to Jay Mariotti being the best scribe in the city yesterday and I would agree to a point but today I pick up the Times and Jay's calling out Ozzie again. Ok, we know Oz and Jay and the Sox are oil and water but when are these petty dislikes going to end?

He called you a burrito Jay, get over it already!! Jay calls for Ozzie to be dismissed and calls him a failure before the first pitch of the 2008 season has even been thrown.I'm not even a Sox fan but Im tired of the bashing between the Sox ,Jerry, Jay and Ozzie.

Mac , read this article today and tell me Jay is the best in this town and I'll run naked up and down Michigan ave. Ozzie is good for baseball and Chicago and once he's gone Jay will have nothing to wrtie about.

Jay is a total moron if he thinks Ozzie is a failure. In 2004, he had a rash of injuries on his team, otherwise the Sox would have at least gotten the wild card. In 2005, he was given the best pitching staff in baseball and won the whole thing. In 2006, they were one of the best teams in baseball during the first half and the players fell apart in the 2nd half. Last year, he was given a shit bullpen which will make any manager look horrible.

I'm not saying to start the Ozzie Guillen win in Cooperstown, but you certainly cannot call him a bad manager-- at least not yet. Either way, if the Sox rattle off 22 wins in April, Jay will write that Ozzie should win manager of the year. If they're under .500 in the middle of may, Jay will-- yet again-- call for Ozzie to get fired.

Some pretty good points Frank but the club has been in a free fall for about a year and a half now. Kenny is to blame for most of it and this team is quickly becoming very old quick. They are going to have to blow it up after this year and if the club is below 500 at the trading dead-line look for a fire sale from Kenny. I think Kenny and Ozzie are on the hot seat this year and they need to show inprovement this year or they both are gone.

On the flip side, I thought Jay gave Lou a pass on the Cubs showing in the playoffs last year and look for the honeymoon to be over with Lou this year as well.

I understand and agree with most of your points. I know that Mac also said that Mariotti was the "most read" scribe in the city. I agree with that.

Your point about Jay not having anything to write about is way off. That dick could find anything to write about and make it as controversial as possible. Hence...the "most read". He is playing the game...getting under peoples skin, and apparently he got you today. He just continues to write shit for the reactions, and we give it to him.

I'm with you Stu. In fact I'd add Hawk & North to that list as well. Mariotti has no credibility on these people since he clearly has an axe to grind. His comments come off as petty, childish and predictable (the same goes for Feder when he mentions Felicia Middelbrooks, Diane burns,...etc.). Jay's ego gets the best of him in these article - as if he is presenting such a convincing argument that his readers will say "...Oh yeah.., he's right...I do hate Hawk now." :roll:

I'm considering having the well-read, Eddie Munster-looking typewritter tapper (you're all just crappers -- Pete Townshend) on the show today or tomorrow.

Topic: his take on sportsradio badboys. I liked it. He didn't write anything inaccurate... be he selectively excluded a few facts. You guys up for it?

It might be interesting but ehhhh...He's a dick and I can't stand him. He'll be arrogant and say something bad about Jerry Reinsdorf and that's about it. Not riveting radio but it's your show. Ask him why he sucks on the radio and who would be able to question him.

Jay's great - just ask him.

The fact that his daddy had to write to a Pittsburgh paper to defend Jay speaks volumes imho.

Get him on .. Let me add that if your getting him on to challenge him about the stuff he wrote about you might lead some to think you might have an axe to grind...That could be good radio Mac. On the other hand I think you need to challenge him on his disgust for Ozzie and Uncle Jerry.It's become petty and very , very old already.

I'm buckling up for this one. 8)

Between Harry's love for The Chairman, and what Mac is to say about Sportsradio, this could be one hellava listen.

The idea of a good columnist is to solicit emotion / response. Jay finds a way to do that eventhough his views differ from most.

He is the best in town and it is not close. (unless you include the Herald's Barry Rozner)

If you have him on & the only topic is sportsradio badboys...personally I think that is sort of lame...and a little self-serving for you. As you can see by the other comments, people would prefer to take him to task about the endless Jerry & Ozzie bashing, etc..

I thought his sports-radio article, while potentially accurate, was pretty boring and a lackadaisical effort on his part. A very easy "write" for JM.

What a Great (not-so-big) Penis Event!

You can talk about things Jay doesn't like in Chicago:
Jerry Reinsdorf and Reinsdorf entities/employees.
The Tribune and its entities.
Sports radio stations that have fired him or won't hire him, and the people that work for them (present company excluded).
The working press/media in the pressbox and those who go into the locker room.
Internet sports blogs and message boards.

<go to commercial>

Things Jay likes about Chicago

<10 seconds of dead air>

Say your goodbyes

<phone lines lit up calling him out for his doucheness>

I agree with Mac that Jay has the ability to bring about thought and emotion. His articles may irritate or anger the reader, but rarely are they boring. HOWEVER, Jay has zero ability to let go of a grudge. Whether it's Reinsdorf or Ozzie or Kenny, Jay takes EVERY opportunity to TRY to stick it to them in the paper. He makes up stories rather than reporting on whats going on. He will say that Ozzie is a hair away from being fired for something he said, yet when the owner and General manager is asked about it, they say that Ozzie is not in any trouble. But Eddie Munster is still holding his grudge. Yet Jay is the asshole who called LaTroy Hawkins LaToya Hawkins and has used similar names for other athletes-calling by womens first names. Then when he is called a burrito, he whines like a little bitch-which he is. He can dish it out, but he can't take it. I guess that's because he is what Ozzie thought he was (and is) a burrito!

Just read Jay's take on sportsradio. If he doesn't like it, why does he listen? I like how he used it as a chance to take a shot at Ozzie and Reinsdorf. He is a sad, angry little man.

Mac likes the way Jay writes, and as a student of the written word, I used to appreciate JM's turn of a phrase. Mac also likes strong opinions. So JM works for Mac.

Jay's stock in trade is criticism based often on personal animus and attacks on others. This apparently sells in Chicago. I guess we've got some angry people that wake up every morning looking for fresh meat and Jay is their sausage grinder. I much prefer a finely prepared filet delivered in a courteous fashion.

Or at least quality control. (Though I've never really appreciated Mariotti's 'turn of a phrase' as you did)
