Post subject:  Radio Icons ?

The Last few Hawks games I've attended the Hawks have honored so-called Chicago radio Icons of Eric and Kathy, Eddie and Jobo who were booed unmercifully and to many here on this boards chagrin Mike North has had an evening in his honor and tonight Steve Dahl was honored.

Ok, Dahl in my book is an Icon and Northie can be credited with getting sports radio off the ground in Chicago but none of these people have carried the torch for Blackhawks hockey like Mac, Jurko and Harry. Mac has talked hockey the last 20 years in radio and a Hawks fan since the 60's and Harry worked for the Hawks on the T.V. side and Jurko's been a life long Hawks fan and talks pucks with the best of them.

What gives guys? The only show who talks Blackhawks hockey can't get a sniff from the Hawks.

Great game tonight and 4 points out of a playoff spot.

The most obvious reason is that ESPN1000 is the competitor to the Hawks flagship station, and ESPN (in Bristol) decided to give the NHL the heave ho and they've been sent to 'Bolivian' on OLN, ...now Versus.

Eric is a Hawkeye - I'll cut him a break.

As for Kathy, if I ever saw her in person, I'd have to lift up her hair to see if she had a valve.

This may be a tallest-midget award, but I personally think that Eric & Kathy are the best woman-woman radio tandem in Chicago....

Eddie and Jobo have been on the radio for 20 something years. While their show no longer appeals to me, the morning drive for that amount of time is pretty impressive.

Especially when the target demo for that station is something like 12-25 year olds. Not bad for a pair of 83 year olds.

So is Eric aka Hawkeye on this board too. Or maybe that's who you're talking about.

No. Eric Ferguson also graduated from the University of Iowa - well before my time or hawkeye's time.

Can you cut Pierre Pierce a break too? He's a nice guy, just misunderstood...and - "He's a Hawkeye!"

Kind of ironic that the Blackhawks fired one of the biggest radio Icons in Chicago and that is Pat Foley. See if the can right the ship next year and bring him back . Spike Odell is the next in line to be honored is what I read.

No. What a piece of shit he is. The minister in that Sun Times article was right on one thing. They should have let him go after the first offense. But it wasn't the University's fault that the second incident happened, it was his.

I also saw he's still best friends with Alford. Those two deserve each other.

C'mon Vince. There are plenty of situations where rape is acceptable...like when a woman won't have sex with you. What are you supposed to do, not have sex with her just because she doesn't want it? That's just crazy.

*Disclaimer for the sensitive people on the board: that was a JOKE!*

..or, for instance, the times when the woman doesn't even know who you are? How else is it gonna happen?

Same disclaimer as above!

I have sampled Chicago radio for over 30 years and listened to everyone from Chet Coppeck in the 70's and Larry Lujack and Uncle Tommy on WLS when it was cool to be a WLS listener and then Steve Dahl in his early Loop days and then Johnny B. and Kevin Mathews but 15 minutes of Eddie and Jobo was 15 minutes too much.

No offense Spaulding but those guys just blow.If you were 10 or 11 and listened then I understand but in my book the worst radio in Chicago.

When the Score started in '92 I was like a kid in a candy store and have never gone back to any other talk station except for WMVP. There was nothing better than the early days of the Score when it comes to radio. No egos, the fans seem to matter with the station and relationships with the callers and hosts were built. Now it's a business and it's all about advertising dollars and how many spots can they run in an hour.

To you they blow but to thousands of grade school kids they are entertaining. I can still remember standing in my bathroom fixing my 80's big hair listening to them everyday before school.

When you flip the switch to AM radio, face it you're old. I'd bet most people under 20 listen to FM no matter how bad it is.

Totally agree with you but I have a hard time listening to two mid 40 year old guys trying to be hip with teenagers.I'm trying to do that with my daughters now and it isn't flying.I'm a pretty cool dad to all their friends but they think I'm a douchebag.

I've listened for 20 years. My mom listened to Steve Dahl in his early Loop days and then Johnny B. and Kevin Mathews. Johnny B was the only one I liked but even that wasn't my thing.

B96, Z95, The Blaze, Q101, then I started flipping stations. Then sadly one day I realized I was old and the things the kids listened to no longer appealed to me. The office I worked in listened to sports radio and that's what I started to put on in the car.

Eric and Kathy's audience is mostly women probably 25-55. I don't know how long they've been on so I can't speak for their iconic status. You can't discount them because you don't like them. You shouldn't like them, you're not their target demographic. I don't get mad at ESPN or the Score when they do something I don't like or I'm excluded. I'm not their target demographic.

So their friends are really really stupid...Everybody thinks their own parents are dbs and everybody else's are grate.

Have them hang out with Stu for a weekend, maybe you'll look better by comparison.

Eddie and Jobo really dont seem to gear their topics anymore to the teenage demographic. I listen to their show occasionally now which is something I never did when I was in Junior High or High School.

Believe it or not I attended a Catholic grade school, so it was a catholic school girl uniform. The skirt was short but I wore shorts underneath and you could usually see them. Very very sexy.

That belongs in guilty pleasures and not something I'd admit to anyway.
