Holy lord I know its hate week, and I know dumb comments like "Joe Crede is a liability at 3rd base," light up the phone lines but goddam this is painful to listen to. Its tunes for me on the way home until these fucking 6 games are over with. Christ almighty if these callers really represent the majority of Cubs and Sox fans, Chicago is one dumb fuck city.

Sox won it all 2 years ago, they're in first right now. Which means nothing in October.

Cubs on paper right now are one of the best teams in baseball. They haven't won in a century. They're in first right now, and again that means nothing in October.

In June, you win jack and shit as far as championships go.

Sounds like I'm missing the 2008 version of Wayne's World.

Thankfully, they invented satellite radio.

Instant dial flippage. It is the nadir of both sports talk and entertainment. I usually have my radio on AM1000 in the afternoon. The remainder of the week I am elsewhere.
The few minutes I listened to weren't merely painful, they were asinine as well.
Keep it.

I couldnt agree more, the cubs / sox series is something I try to avoid, because the meatballs ruin it for me.

B&B for me. They are treading lightly on the topic this week and don't have a loud mouth trying to throw out any half assed belief and light up the phone lines.....Tiger Woods should have thought of his country first. That's asinine.

I think an awesome thing for restaurants to do would be to sell any dish with meatballs for 1/2 price until the series is over.

might not be good for business but it'd be a funny gimmick.

It's a FANTASTIC week Frank!

Actually it'll be a FAAAANtastic two weeks, followed by a few days of puffy chestedness going on.

35 days til Bears Camp!!!! Just booked my hotel room for the 27th. My response after hearing the $79.99 rate: "That's not the government rate." The response from the reservation clerk: "Sorry Mr. Slick, that'll be $59.99 a night."

I'm your Huckleberry, Mac. But I won't be calling in or faxing, just enjoying the events as the prelude has been exemplary. For the first time in a long time, most Cubs fans have a tinge of sanity about their boasts, as they crapped their pants last season. Sox fans are optimistic but know that a multi-game losing streak can hit at any point and another Ozzie tirade ain't gonna make things all good.

What's funny is the cautiousness of people asking "Cubs" or "Sox"? It's as if you don't want to mess with your team's mojo but exhale a sigh of relief if their of the same colors. As a Sox fan, I can say that it doesn't mean an outburst of puffy-chestedness, just some sober discussion of how nice it would be to get 2 out of 3.

Oh, and those (Devil) Rays, losing to them really is a reality check. Nothing against them but it is what it is.

I completely agree. I have been listening to CDs or whatever is on FM.

Jurko is a moron and Harry is just a dumb homer.

I will dive back into MJH in a couple weeks with a hunger for good sports radio.

The Rays are a damn good team, as they are showing the Cubs this series. Going 3-4 against them, all on the road, is nothing to be ashamed of.

That's because neither truly is a fan of either team. Bernstein claims to be a White Sox fan. When was the last time he shared a story about exchanges he had with PLAYERS in the Sox' CLUBHOUSE or a chat he had with Ozzie or coaches in the DUGOUT? Do any of the Score guys -- other than Hanley or Mulligan -- actually attended sporting events?

I understand this week isn't for everybody. Most of you guys (and ladies) are bigger sports fans and will consume games and media all the time. For the more casual fan, these six games are much bigger. I am grateful for these six games. And I predict... my show will have the biggest audience in the current ratings book. If we don't mop the floor with the "satirical sports show for the past nine years"... I'd be shocked. I see another landslide best-in-the-city performance for the Afternoon Saloon. It's good to be King.

it hasn't helped that the board has experienced the Meatball Paradox the last few weeks with elmhurst steve blowing cubby blue everywhere, frank taking the bait, and most of us getting caught in the middle.

it's not funny, it's not fun. [/crystal]

Even if its "King Meatball?" ;)

I usually like most of the Cubs Sox banter on the show, but yesterday was just too annoying between Harry, Jurko, and most of the callers. I've got a shit ton of songs to learn anyway for upcoming gigs, and while I love listening to sports talk, ESPN doesn't give me free drinks or pay me cash for playing guitar 8)

What does this have to do with the fact that I am looking to be entertained this week and not stuck on ridiculous discussions around:

1. The Sox should wave the White Flag and trade Buerhle (who can't be traded anyway)
2. Tiger Woods should have skipped the US Open and do the patriotic thing and wait for the Ryder Cup

I understand the ratings are how you get paid, but it's not how I am entertained as a listener. If all you ultimately care about is the meatball demographic, I may have to stop flipping between commercials.

This really gets to the core of the problem with the SCORE; I get the feeling several of the hosts do not even enjoy sports anymore.

This kind of radio is why people hate Mike North.

Jurko becomes the goader. Harry says something fanatical. and Mac just keeps saying scoreboard.

it's a perpetual circle of antagonism and aggravation....and it makes doug go for a bike ride or hit 670 at commercial.

the "best" part about yesterday's show discussion was when Jurko said something to the effect of "Suspension month in full swing"

otherwise,
who needs to feel aggravation and anxiety from their entertainment?
not me.

thumbs down.

Bernsie has said, Mac, that since he's been in media he really isn't a fan of any Chicago team any more. He says you lose that "fan feeling" once you're in the business. At least he does.

I would hope nobody would suggest Tiny -- a target of many here -- getting his comeuppance on his Cubs now that C Zam is potentially finished for the year isn't going to be entertaining. "It's ov-a!" Remember?
