Post subject:  Hey, Mac ... My Bad

I sent you a rather disjointed e-mail today, and I appreciate the reading on the air. I should have spoken in more clear English, however. What I was trying to say was that Hawk can't seem to get through a telecast without a reference to a player or two from his 'glory days' as a ballplayer. I made a reference to the MLS logo and said that only Boog Powell could have caught up with a ball that close to him. I think Jurko picked up on my meaning, but I should have been more clear. The Boog Powell reference was only used as an example of my larger topic.

It does make me wonder though, given today's demographic, if anyone really gives a shit about Brooks Robinson, Rico Petrocelli, and the hundreds and hundreds of players I watched growing up. Is Hawk irrelevant, or just trying to pass along these names to the newer generation of fans ... people like my own son, who is 25? And if he is doing the latter, do they want to hear it?

Personally, I don't mind it, having turned 50 last year, but as Tony Soprano once famously said to Paulie Walnuts, "'Remember when' is my least favorite form of conversation ..."

I would be interested in what others think, but primarily wanted to clear up what I said.

I knew Brooks Robinson had a hellava glove, but I didn't know he played soccer too.

I really dont like listening to Hawk. WHenever the sox are losing he doesn't talk. I wonder how he would be announcing games that he wasn;t so emotionally involved in.

I was shocked to see Hawk is only 66. I figured he was pushing 80. I hate listening to him but it is not because of the references to the past.

Yep OOgie. Gotta love a color man on the radio who talks about a play that just happened as "Yeah and on the replay.......oh....Yeah........well he did tag him right there.......yep."

I could take or leave hawk. I am extremely jealous of the Bob Brenley(sp?) and Len Casper. I truly enjoy listening to those 2.
