It takes a lot of sack for failed comedian Harry to take a shot at Kevin Matthews/Jim Shortz. You'd be lucky to be half as talented as Matthews or Dahl. It seems as if Harry believes those afternoon ratings are his doing. MJH excells in spite of you fuckhead!

i'm still not totally sure why harry hates matthews so much...i imagine either matthews stole something from him or thinks he did.

Kev has more talent in his left nut then MJH combined

I was a big fan of Kevin Matthews before he & Jimmy Shorts got screwed out of the Chicago market when bosses of Kev's last radio station wanted to cut his pay and wouldn't up the $$$$ before he ended up relocating to Grand Rapids, MI. I vaguely remember a showdown Kev & Harry had on the air, long before 1000 became ESPN Radio in 1998 & "MJH" signing on in 2001. I thought it involved something that Kev took exception to, and was really irate with Harry on Kev's old midday show...Unfortunately, I don't quite remember the specifics of what set Kev off.

how far do you go back in Chicago sports radio, SHARK? I mean as far as your own listening history?

City, that Kevin Matthews post goes back to when WMVP wasn't just a sports talker. Before ABC Radio bought 1000 in '98, WMVP was actually a "comedy talker" that featured Kev, Jimmy Shorts, Steve Cochran, Fred Winston, "The Media Creatures", plus local sports talk with Dave Wills & Chris Cross, and was also the flagship of the White Sox & Bulls under different ownership. If you really want to feel old, 1000 was once WCFL...

I used to be very entertained by Kevin Matthews back in the day.

Then again, I once enjoyed The Sweet.

I also don't understand how radio people get 'screwed out of the market'. If he could have worked here but wanted more money, then it's his God given right to tell the radio station to pound sand, but they offered him a job. Much like the world needs gravediggers too, southwestern Michigan needs radio personalities too. Just ask Bill Simonson and Kev.

I really liked Kevin back in the day on AM-1000. He was at his best when he followed Johnny B. When I came back from the military I found him on the morning show at 94.7 the Zone. It seemed that he had become too cool for the room by then.

I was a Kev-Head.
I heard Spicoli's version of the encounter and it was pretty different from Harry's crazy story, Herry didn't debate the big difference in the facts either, which is a sign of being caught in a lie. Something stinks about harry's version of that encounter.

I think Mac was raising the B.S. flag too by bringing on Spicoli and stating that he wanted to hear Kevin's side of the story.

I'd be almost sort of disappointed if Harry is lying. I have a lot of respect for someone who pulls a knife on Harry and threatens his life

If Harry is lying, isn't it a bad move to say something like that on the air? He also said Kevin repeatedly used racial slurs...seems like you could get into some trouble for lying about something like that on the air.

If those allegations aren't true, then he could get sued for defamation of character and libel. He'd definitely lose, since he probably doesn't have any proof.

Factually speaking, Kev worked 2 tours of duty at AM 1000, first when he followed Jonathon Brandmeier's simulcast on both the "AM & FM Loop" in the late '80s, and in the mid '90s when WMVP was a comedy talker before becoming ESPN Radio. When ABC Radio bought AM 1000 in 1998, Kev was hired to host morning drive when it was known as "CD 94.7" and then "The ZONE" before the fiasco at 105.9 WCKG. There, he was part of a short lived lineup with Howard Stern mornings & Steve Dahl, complete with dead air, afternoons before Howard raised eyebrows when he signed with Sirius Satellite Radio and ultimately led to the death of 'CKG.

I was listening in the late '80s on the AM side. For some reason, the radio we used in the warehouse I was working in received AM-1000 better than FM-97.9. I also remember when I was younger that Kevin would come on at night. Am I remembering correctly?

Frank, you are correct...Kev did host nights back in the late '80s before shifting to middays. I was actually a junior in high school when I first listened to Kev & Jimmy...

I think it would be awesome to get Kevin Matthews on the air tomorrow, as Mac suggested.

Mike North and Kevin Matthews within 40 days ... how cool is that?

Can Danny Bonaduce and Mancow be next?

Beef, I heard "Mac" wanted to get Kev on the air tomorrow...It had to do with a bet, according to what Harry said late this afternoon.

Is there an echo in the message board? Didn't I just say that with my first sentence?

If I were Harry, I'd be very careful about dissing former Chicago radio stars like Kev. He was a hell of a funny guy in his day, and people come and go -- Harry, remember this, it may be you some day doing mornings in Beloit.

I also met Kev a few times at remotes, and he was as nice as they come, sitting for hours in the afternoon sun signing anything in sight and chatting with his listeners.

In reality, that would be a step up for Harry. He has NEVER been a successful show in which he was the principal talent.

On the other hand, Harry has sufficient trust fund money to buy the station and program Harry Comedy Jams all day every day.

Kev > Harry

I'm not a Harry hater but one of you has to email/call the show today with "Tiny (Other) as a response to the web poll question. The question is Who would you pay $20 million for his retirement.
