So kickers and punters aren't football players eh? Let the discussion begin. |

i already see the rebuttal including a mention of matt ryan's really nice throw and jenkins' really nice catch, to set up that field goal. "the kicker just did his job"...that sort of thing. |

I've never liked Mac and Jurko's "kickers aren't players" argument. I'd like to know how many games a year are won by kickers. Go ask Bellichick how important these non-players are. Worth a couple Super Bowls and a legacy to him. |

The discussion I can't wait for is: "If you really think about it, the Bears should be 6-0!" No, you're 3-3. And that was a bad way to lose. |

Yeah and our dumbass coacing staff has our kicker squib it to the 45 and were fucked.I knew they would pick UP at least 25 yards and in a dome that's all you need.Especially with a kicker who as kicked a 63 yard field goal before. yOU KICK THE FUCKEN BALL OUT OF THE ENDZONE AND YOU WIN.....Lovie is so inept it's not even funny. Matt Ryan...Pretty good. |

Beef, you picked a pretty idiotic example to make your case. Let's keep in mind that the Bears lose without event if their kicker hits the previous chip-shot. |

But if kickers aren't football players - then wipe ALL of Jason Elam's points off the board. The Bears win convincingly. Kickers achievements and failures on the gridiron CERTAINLY matter in the outcome of NFL games. And if that's the case, I'd imagine they'd kind of have to be considered 'football players'. |

Well GRID, I agree with your original assessment. I have never thought of kickers as non-football players, but as specialists. And when a specialist gets the job done, they can have quiet the highs. When they don't...well, they're left off the bus/plane right? Interesting to me that Elam was the goat and the hero in the same game, within minutes...pretty strange stuff. |

I don't know what Grid Iron has to do with this thread, but I found it amusing that the 'field reporter' had Rashied Davis all ready for a post game interview and then shoed him away after Elam's kick. No respect for the wide receiver position - which I think works in Mr. McNeil's world. |

Worth a couple Super Bowls and a legacy to him. If kickers aren't players they wouldn't have a roster spot for them. Ask anyone who has been aced out in their FF league if a K is important. Teams play for FGs in the last minutes more than they ever have. In the 70s, a 35 yard FG was a crapshoot, today you get the chance for a 50 to win it, teams play it safe and go for the kick. Just ask a Bears fan---they will tell you Gould sucks outside 50, but there you go--"real players" should be able to score or prevent scores and not cause the game to be determined by the kickers. S'OK Mac, the real players disappeared against the Falcons--but I am sure you can find a way to blame it on the kicker. |

The Bears would have been better off if Gould missed the extra point. The Bears could have kicked deep, the Falcons would have taken a knee and they could have battled it out in OT...which would have allowed for the cover, as well. |
