Did my ears deceive me or was that OUR Doug telling the show NOT to talk music late yesterday afternoon? Is this the same Doug who plays guitar? The same Doug who extolls the virtues of HIS favorite bands on the board? The same Doug who offered to help my son, Jack, with his drumming interests?

Say it isn't so.

I know our show doesn't "get" any act produced after 1985... but I thought yesterday's Smashing Pumpkins discussion crossed generations. I likened what Corgan (sp?) is doing to Jim Morrison... a man who loved to be hated. It's shocking Doug the music snob, because he had a different opinion, would prefer we stick to sports. With that in mind Doug, what was the biggest breakdown in the Bulls defensive posture against Portland last night? Did you like the Ball State offensive line? Which Ram poses the biggest threat to the Bears Sunday? Let's stick to sports. ;-)

I don't know if Morrison loved to be hated. He was clearly a loose cannon even before he got well into booze and psychadelics. I just think he was a hopped up lunatic and didn't give a shit what people thought about him. I doubt his actions/rants were premeditated like Corgan's are.

Regardless, I'm with Jurko in the "have no desire to see the Smashing Pumpkins do anything" camp.

The Ball State line was the equivalent of the Packers on Sunday. No one was getting touched until they were five yards down field. It really is a shame that Love got hurt because this team would be unstopable.

West Coast Bulls games on a weeknight are a luxury I was not able to enjoy.

Donnie Avery poses the biggest threat. I think they will keep holt bottled up, but Avery will be open.

What time is Adopt a Pet on today?

I think you need to talk more Bears. Give me more reasons why Lovie sucks, why Grossman sucks, why the defense sucks, why Hester sucks, why Angelo sucks...

I flip around the dial and NO ONE is talking about this stuff.

Post subject:  Re: Doug from EP: "Stick to sports"

thank you my porpoise friend...

Yes I am that same guy...I also said "unless you are going talk about AC/DC or The Rolling Stones." I suppose I could include LZ, James Taylor, and Warren Zevon too. 8)
The Morrison comparison is what did it...that was the "stick to sports" line.
Billy is not a yammering drunk on an acid trip extolling the virtues of mom fucking.

I did not SEE those games last night. So, I cannot make an informed comment and will not base any response on hearsay.

People forget that they recorded 4 more discs and countless b-sides and covers after Mellon Collie, which is also why there are two completely different setlists of 24-26 songs. The crap with the audience (3-4 d-bag meatheads) started after song 22!!!

If you stopped listening in 1996, well...sorry. If you are 12 year old kid who didn't get to see them.....that's life buddy.
I never got to see the Beatles, Led Zeppelin with JHB, Roth era Van Halen, AC/DC with Bon Scott, Metallica with Cliff Burton.
Could I see versions of some of those bands now? Sure.
Do I expect them to only play shit from two albums? fuck no.

Anniversary shows and Reunion Tours are completely different things.
These concerts are designed to celebrate 20 years of the band....not a window of 5 years.

Come on now, Mac called YOU out and that was your best? You spewed more vitriol for Harry when he claimed that you were texting him too much.

*Sorry* to disappoint....

well, isn't that ironic? a thread on the pumpkins that fails to give you what you want. good thing you were around when the Harry thread happened. It would be a shame for someone to have missed that.

Mine is Blue... (first time I ever heard them)... pure, raw pumpkins... not overproduced. Simple rifs, nothing special about the song, but it just brings back great memories of 1991. I think it was released on the single prior to Gish.

I think the fans were mad, not because of them playing their current stuff, but because their current stuff sucks. Maybe that's it. Then again, they knew their current stuff sucked when they bought the ticket.

Post subject:  Re: Doug from EP: "Stick to sports"

Billy should have played some of his solo stuff. This band is one step away from being that anyway. Pretty soon the pumpkins will be like Axl Rose and his "hired guns".

Doug and I had some good debates on this yesterday. We were both at the same show and came away w/ different opinions. Greg Kot from the Trib is a great read today. Explains the music and performance was actually decent for the first 3/4 of the show but Corgan just completely gave everyone a BIG F-you after that.

And Beardown...Good choice on Disarm. That song got me interested in the Pumpkins as I sat at KILR Radio in Estherville, Iowa in 1993.

Beardown...how many times have you listened to the Zeitgeist album?
just curious.
Douchebag...Billy's solo stuff is not even close to Pumpkins music with the exception of the Adore disc.

Fine, is the Big F-U because they closed the set like they always do with kazoos and played a 20 minute psychedelic pink floyd space jam? (which was fucking awesome btw).

And let's be honest. The biggest DICK head move of all rock'n roll-dom wast the infamous "One Note Show" concert from the White Stripes.

Music phanaticism far exceeds that in the sport, political or gaming realm.

Face it Billy always has been always will be a fucking egomaniac dickwad.
This same guy a few years back ripped the Chicago local scene , told us we are a bunch of jerkwads ,to paraphrase. They had some good stuff but just like some other artists he thinks he is the band and his vision is the only thing that matters.
I never thought they where the end all be all. He is such a db I would love to see him and Moby in a steel cage match then have Eddie Vedder come out and kick both their asses. They where okay , not great.Thats just my opinion I could be wrong in your eyes but so what. they are not even the best act to come out of Chicago in the past 20 years.

I think Morrison may have been a tad bi-polar. There are moments where I think he loved the attention and other moments where he would go into seclusion. Did you ever see the PBS Television performance in New York from 1970 of "The Soft Parade"? If we ever see Billy Corgan letting himself go with full unkempt beard and probably unshowered, we'll know why.

Funny. When U2 plays new stuff at a concert the crowd doesn't bitch at all. I wish I had seen this concert since every review and perception is different from the next. I'm not for sure what to think. Sounds like Corgan has turned into a dick, but I've heard some others like Doug that that isn't the case.

Post subject:  Re: Doug from EP: "Stick to sports"

Also, the "stick to sports" comment threw my off-guard. I don't think anything they were saying sounded like they had no clue what they were talking about. They're regular dudes like anyone else. We all have opinions on music, sports, etc. This didn't seem like a stray from the norm on the show. Shame on you Doug.
