Mike D of Red Bar Radio charges premium subscribers $10 a month for his twice weekly (at this point) 2 hour Internet Radio show/podcast:

http://redbarradio.com/

Enjoy the downtime, Image and play some X-Box live and catch up on all those movie-films you haven't had the time to watch, like this one:

How much would I pay? The title of the 1987 movie about Robert Downey Jr's drug addiction also starring Andrew McCarthy, Jami Gertz, and James Spader.

One objection to this would be that the broadcast would be available only via the internet (streaming and then for later d/l as a podcast) and thus difficult to listen to in your car (until car stereos get teh internets). well, given that the show has been 2-6, many people already listen at work/home/somewhere other than their car.

Another hurdle would be Mac getting guests--not that Mac couldn't get sports-related guests to phone/skype in whatever, but with the growing behemoth that is EPSN putting Mac on the outside, he might find people balking at being a guest on a show from someone on the outs with Bristol.

So the show could cover subject matter other than sports, it's not like Mac is a one-track, sports-talk only radio host.

Stream it live from "the basement" 2-4 pm a couple days a week initially, then have someone mix it down to a podcast by 5 and post if for people wanting to listen to it on their commutes home.

Depending on the language in Mac's contract, this may or may not be permissible for him to do before May or whenever he becomes free and clear of any further ESPNtanglements.

Make it free til then and get the show off the ground on ESPN's dime.

Hey, best of luck finding a listenable replacement for Mac. When you do find one, please post it here so we all may enjoy.

How much would you have paid NOT to have commercial breaks every few minutes during MJH, $1 per show? If Mac ramped it up to 5 shows a week, that's 20 shows per month, so at $10 per listener that's 50 cents a show.

There are different models for these internet radio shows: pure premium (paid subscribers only get the live stream, obviously the podcasts could be pirated with ease), mix of free and paid subscribers (the stream and podcasts are free, then premium listeners get access to a message board and additional content) and then either of the above with some sponsors, but the sponsor breaks are less intrusive.

Zero is the amount I'd pay to hear an over-rated jerk talk about AC/DC, quote 80's movie lines, poorly imitate the stupid "da coach" bullshit, act like god's gift to radio, play dumbass poorly done parodies and talk very little sports. got that for free with the MJH shitfest. Now CANCELLED due to falling ratings and a pompous loud mouthed host. No sympathy for this. Mac turned a good show into a shitfest, just like North did.

Just buy XM and enjoy sports without hearing about how the host is cooking up free Allen Bros. meat, drinking Johnny Walker Blue and how fucking much he is paid. The ass clown is gone, good riddance.

I have an XM icon on my cell phone doohickey, I'm not a subscriber, but if I did subscribe, what kinda sports talk (and other talk radio) shows do they have? also, are any of them local to Chicago? And can you stream them over the internet so you can listen while at work etc?
Thanks.

And hey, best of luck getting Mac to enter into some kind of deal with you on this brainchild.

Is this what net-geners consider market research?

I've no interest in any sort of deal, it's not my field, and I'm not affiliated with either of the shows linked to above. The Red Bar guy has been doing his internet radio show since 2002 and is a good, local to Chicago resource for the technical aspects of producing an internet radio show.

Mac will rake in $267,000 over the next 4 months, from the remaining time he has under his current deal with ESPN that they will pay him, despite not being on-air. I doubt he will need your car wash money. Before that 4 months is up, I'm guessing he will have found another gig. The guy is the best sports-talk radio host this city has had to date. He'll land on his feet.
