pizza_Place: I'm a Gelsosomo's guy.
In the fifteen minutes that I was able to stomach Afternoon Lagoon yesterday, I happened to catch their top 64 Movie tournament entries. While I didn't catch them all, I did catch enough to say "what the hell are you guys talking about?".

Never has Mac been more sorely missed than when these 3 jags start talking about "guy" movies. I think the u in guy should be replaced with an a. Puh-lease.

So I thought, let's start our own tournament of movies for guys. Anyone interested?

We can toss around some names to see what makes our top 64 and then vote on the winners just like the Afternoon Lagoon. I figure that they haven't had an original idea yet, so it's ok to steal from them since they are stealing already.a

Ok - I'm going to give you guys my list of 10 - feel free to add, comment or laugh.

1) Shawshank Redemption - always has been, always will be my favorite.
2) American History X - probably a lot higher on my list than other people, but that's ok.
3) Pulp Fiction - did any of those 3 idiots mention this movie at all?
4) Rocky - innovative for it's time, sequels not horrible except 4 and 5
5) Dances with Wolves - what can I say, I love the epics
6) Braveheart - still loving the epics
7) 300 - groundbreaking special effects that have been imitated but not duplicated
8.) The Usual Suspects - need I say more?
9) Scarface - say hello - yeah you know.
10) The Wrestler - if you haven't seen it, you won't understand

Notice the lack of quasi-comedy sports movies such as "slapshot", "caddyshack" and "major league" - all good movies in their genre, but I don't think they should be on any list of top movies IMO.

Boys, let er rip...

1. Yup, nothing like a little rough gay rape to put a little lead in your pencil huh?
2. Bite the curb, you must be into seeing people hurt and shot, you sick sadist.
3. Waddya know, more gay rape.
4. Some of the worst fight choreographing in movie history.
5. Dances with Utter Boredom. Man those natives woulda scalped his skinny white ass before he could say Boo. And Stands with a Fist? Come on, should have been standing with some conditioner. I haven't seen dreds like that since Marley.
6. Gibson in a skirt. Fascinating.
7. More mostly naked dudes killing darkies. Groundbreaking? Not really, I've seen shit on the screen before.
8. This movie couldn't have had a more predictable twist if M. Night Shamalamma wrote it.
9. Yup back in the day when you put a little brown makeup on a white dude you could make him look latino.
10. Suffice to say I hope to never understand. The only redeeming quality of Mickey Roruke is that he beat the shit out of Danny Bonaduce.

Your list sucks.

Dude, its not I that sucks. That fight at the end was bloody ridiculous. the whole movie was awesome until Balboa takes 400 massive uppercuts and hooks directly to the face and isn't in a bloomin COMA. Yes, I know I'm supossed to "suspend disbelief" but damn, the fight scenes are way over the top and too unrealistic for such a GREAT movie. Fun to watch? sure. But GREAT? No.

Well, Well, you still suck. Thou shalt not mess with Rocky. If you want to mess with Rocky mess with one of the sequels, but leave Rocky alone. Got it? Thanks. 8)

If Rocky needs defending, it's no top 10.

Nonsense. I need to bring change to the board. Change you can believe in. Change you can put in a Mayonnaise jar, Change that always has a capital C as if it were a pronoun.

You gotta be a muslim with terrorist connections to be able to accomplish that.

You know what the worst movie is? Rambo III when he spends and hour defending the poor mujahadeen and their important cause against the Russians.
But Rocky? Were any single one a standalone movie, it would have no great history. It would just be another Judge Dredd.

Not necessarily, you could just say it to get elected and then do business as usual, while appointing the usual suspects.

Fire away on Rambo.

I disagree on Rocky. The original would be a classic regardless of the sequels.

Quite frankly that says more about you than it does Rocky.
I don't think the original sniffs the butt of any real top 10. That's bloody crazy.

Don't you ever see something in a movie, a little thing, you know, that sours the whole damn movie for you? Like for example, Patch Adams. Fun little movie, a little sad, perfect for wife watching, right? But the butterfly at the end? Wholly Christmas that scene pissed me off so bad I felt like throwing my cat thru the television screen. Or what about the heart ripping scene in Temple of Doom, or the bus making the gap in Speed... once you see something like that the movie is toasted in my opinion. And Rocky was toasted by the poor ending fight scene.

Wow I never really thought of my top 3 movies as having gay rape scenes in them because to me, other than Pulp Fiction, they weren't a big part of the story. Yes Andy was raped, but that was just a small part of the plot and what prison movie doesn't make some sort of reference to butt boys?

Ed Norton's character - again in jail - again raped - but his relationship and attitude toward and with A.A.'s are what the crux of the movie was about.

I'll give you pulp fiction - hard to argue that the vignette where Ving got hillbilly justice wasn't integral to the plot.

I disagree and agree with some of the critique with The Wrestler - yes, it was done by Jake the Snake in a similar format but I don't think it had the intriquing storyline that Mickey Rourke brought to the screen.

Couple of other choices - tell me what you think - Good Fellas, the first Saw and Saving Private Ryan

Does anyone know how to remove a thread?

I will say this for Degenerate Dave, that when this starts next Monday, this will get some more hits, especially when we see the movies, Dave I wouldn't worry about it, this is one thing that they are talking about on the show, and I don't know if people that work at the Afternoon Saloon, look at this, I think the last 3 topics were about Mac and nothing about their show, the reason like Dave said in the opening post, it is hard to stomach, it could be worse today, nothing against Howard Griffith, but there will be basically no control on the show, and Harry will fell he can do anything today.
