I know its sad he past away, but Harry sounds like he lost a parent. I rarely listen to this show, and today was a quick exit for me.

Ok. It's sad Norm died. But my God, Coppock is on right now and making this much more dramatic than what it is. Norm wasn't a God. Wow!!!

Coppock's take

-Norm died an angry man (Why? He had a pretty good life I thought. He always sounded happy.)

-This really hits the entire city hard. (No)

I guess they're gonna do a 4 hour wake for Norm.

Hey, these guys knew him personally. To them, it's not like he was just "some guy." He was a friend of theirs. If a friend of yours passed away how would you take it?

They were close. His friend just died. I don't have a problem with it.

B&B are mixing it up...Norm talk and Bulls talk and Rex Grossman talk. Sounds like they are a much better listen.

For the record, he passed away. In the past, he passed the basketball to other Bull greats, and today he passed on.

I get your point though...and I can imagine the over-the-top Harry BS going on.

HT over the top? Surely you jest? He would never do that......would he?

A moment of silence for Norm......................thank you very much.

I think Hall and Oates said it best for times like these,

"he's gone, he's gone, I should've learned how to play, he's gone"

Rex Grossman? Not for me today. I'd like to hear about Norm for the last hour and 15 minutes. I'm among those who are very sad and I can tell how hard this is hitting Harry. Norm was our friend. More later when I'm more composed. Right now I just want to hear people talk about Norm.

Nice job today with the show doing a Norm tribute.I was a fan of the STORMIN Norman growing up and he will be missed.

I heard Lou Canellis call in and I hope Norm knew people loved his game and repected him but Lou kind of painted Norm as an unhappy person and a man that had a very hard time dealing with life the past few years and just painted a very sad picture of what Norm had become.I don't think Lou meant any malice by it but I thought it was an odd way to desribe the guy on the day of his death.

I agree, Windsock. It seemed oddly timed, but it did make me even more curious as to what got Norm. Nobody seems to know yet. I didn't find him to be a sad person at all. Bitter sometimes, but not sad and depressive.

Chet indicated the same thing. Not being invited to Red Kerr's night hurt him a lot.
Gee, thanks Reinsdorf, as always a class act. :puker: :pukel:

And watch the Bulls now try to cover their PR asses by having a big tribute to Storm. Bad.

I think people are exaggerating Norm's sadness and anger. Granted, I didn't know him but here's my take:

Norm was getting old. He had bad health. His friends were starting to pass away. So he's sad about those things I'm sure. Guess what? That's everybody when they get old. I see that in my parents.

From what I understood Norm was still out at the bars yucking it up. The Comcast job was decent money probably. They say he was pissed about his broadcasting career but, c'mon, what was Norm gonna get hired for besides Bulls pre and post? He had a chance at morning radio and was bad.

I think Norm would be pissed to hear the way people are describing him. Seems like he had a fun life. Chet made it out like Norm was gonna kill himself.

I've heard three different people say Norm has been lonely today - VERY lonely. I just hope this Johnny Red Kerr 'diss' didn't
aggravate Norm that much.

I prefer to remember the spirited Norm. ...and at least his got to see Barack become President - I'd like to think that would make him very happy.

Since my kids have never seen Norm - I rented Barbershop to watch a little Norm tonight.

I thought about how Norm would be receiving the thoughts being expressed, Beardown. Wondered what he'd say if he knew I were sitting at home brooding with a good bourbon... likely, he'd tell me to go out and meet my usual Thursday night buddies and raise the glass in his memory.

"Norm Van Lier was one of the all-time greats ever to put on a Chicago Bulls uniform,” said Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf."

Would've been nice for the man to see his number retired. The Chairman wasted no time in retiring Harold Baines number and Baines was still active too. He played a lot more seasons after the fact as well.
What's wrong with paying tribute and honoring a deserving player when they're still alive? Would've been nice for Norm and his family to enjoy a special honor together. Too late now.

God bless you Norm.

You can't honor everyone. In HT's world, everyone who puts on any Chicago uniform
would get some kind of night/day/flag/banner in their honor. That can't happen. That's what makes those who get "their night" that much more special.

It was odd, that a lot of the guys spoke of how mad Norm was that he didn't get "his money", he didn't get "his night" etc. One person even mentioned that he was hurt that Bob Love had his number retired, yet he was the one who gave him the ball. Then they spoke of the time he wanted to get a second technical foul, to get kicked out of the game, so he could go to a stones concert(????) Boy, with that selfish attitude, he would have fit in fine in todays NBA.

All in all, a sad, and at the same time, a very strange day on WMVP. After 4 hours of Norm, I can only shudder to think of what will happen should Da Coach leave us. Will they shut down the radio industry? A national day of mourning? Lord help us all....RIP Norm

Norm never came off like Sayers even if he felt the same way.

I've been critical of this show lately but the show today was part of the reason I listen. It shows the connection with others that B&B lack. A person they knew pretty well died today and if they didn't feel like going though with the lousy bits they had planned, they shouldn't. Most of us have the luxury that when we have a bad day we can go through the motions at work and it's fine. They don't have that luxury and if this was what they saw fitting some of you should respect that.

I very much enjoyed the stories about Norm and his work with the Bulls. I don't know if all those people were calling in or if the production staff had to track them down but it was a really nice job by you all and you should be proud of yourselves.

To those of you that knew him...I'm sorry that you lost a friend today. It sounded like you enjoyed your time with him and I hope, in time, it won't hurt quite so much.

He'd probably put a foot up their asses, and tell you that Michael Phelps had it right.

RIP Norm.

Very well written Spaulding and I couldn't agree more. I was with Mac earlier (button 48) losing our asses on the roulette wheel and he left a few minutes before me and when I got into my truck Carm was doing a recap of Norms life and went to commerical and I was like is Norm gone??? I called Danny right away and he was pretty upset as he had just gotten the news.

I stuck with Carm and Harry the rest of the day and Carm did a great job with it and you're correct in saying they captured the spirit of the thing in reflecting on Norm. I switched to B&B for a minute or two and it was goofyness so I went back to CJH for the rest of the day.

If I can bring the segment back for a second= Thumbs up to Carm on a nice job today.

It would have to be in Crayon and have a lot of pictures. My rehab stories are pretty good though. Those stories would sell some copies.

Say a little prayer for his wife as she got some bad news today...

Your books would have different audiences. You might make Oprah's list, Stu might make the weird sales clerk's top pick of the week. You'd be in the inspirational section, he'd probably be in humor or they'd start a new section and label it "other" or "for the derranged."

If there is anything else I can do to help him, other than say a prayer, let me know.

I have to give a sincere compliment to the producers of todays show. I started the afternoon listening to B&B, but after hearing that Norm had died, I was at a loss to try to understand why they kept talking about Rex Grossman and how unfair some people were to him, and not talking about Van Lier. I switched over to the Saloon and it was a tremendous job they did paying tribute to a great Basketball player, a fine Bulls ambassador and a friend to many of the guys doing the show. The guests were very good and the show was outstanding. To the producers, as much or more than to the on air personalities, great job.

Just saw the Red Kerr news and read Zederman's post about the Norm tribute show today. I always remember MJH talking very highly of Norm and will always remember him as a great Bulls player and fan.

Wish I could have heard more of today's show.

During the 10 minutes or so I caught today Bruce was on talking about Norm and the problems he's had with the Bulls recently. Anyone know what the beef was?
