Anyone else tired of hearing these three yap, drop names and generally gloat about the GREAT seats they are getting for free at the Hawks games? While the rest of us slug it out and try to make a living, you think these dopes would be a little more cognizant of how the rest of us live .... lucky to get to a game or two, but usually parked in front of the TV. Is it me? WTF? |

guyt, I enjoy your posts usually, but this is one of the dumbest threads ever. I hope you're not one of those guys always dogging Boers and Bernstein for NOT going to games because you can't have it both ways. Maybe we (media) all could do a better job not "rubbing it in" over comp tickets, golf, dinners, etc. I don't think the guys at ESPN (and I know I didn't when I was there) lost perspective and have become ungrateful for our perks. I grew up in the upper reaches of Chicago stadia. Fatha took me to games a couple times a year, but I never sat in good seats and I always am appreciative of the privileges that have come with being on the radio. Not related to this thread per se... I think some in this "community" would be better served if they expended good energy on improving their position in life instead of whining about who's getting a free ticket or buying a fish and ski boat for their sons' enjoyment. |

Good seeing your name pop up, Mac. Hope you are well. Guess I just get sick and tired of hearing teases like, "And guess who Harry had drinks with last night after the game ...?" Who gives a fuck? And yes, I could afford to go to pretty much any game in town, but prefer the company of my family over watching Silvy stagger into a glass partition like a frat boy who stumbled into the rich section. |

Guess I just get sick and tired of hearing teases like, "And guess who Harry had drinks with last night after the game ...?" Who gives a fuck? =-=-=-=-=-=-= It's an entire debate in itself... but in short, a lot of people care. People spend hours a day on TMZ, Twitter, Facebook and any other medium following celebrities around. As for the free tickets... they work in the sporting industry, what else would you expect? |

My comment was about their attitude; my seven-year-old knows they get free tickets. Maybe it was my way of saying that the show sucks now, and I just had to tell someone ..... |

And maybe you should not worry about what is written about you and other radio people on a message board. If you enjoy the perks, fine, but don't be so surprised when some people find it tacky when the hosts continue to talk about these perks, especially in the current economic situation. |

Thank you, Score. I should have used 'tacky' in the first place. That gets to the crux of the matter more quickly. |

Hey Mac, My post was more in jest than anything else, as that boat story is now legendary. The timing of the whole thing couldn't have been worse, because if I remember correctly you were talking about buying that boat within days of the news that your contract wasn't being renewed. The thing is, this is something that has been a pretty common complaint from your listeners. I don't think with the number of people I've heard make this complaint that you could dismiss it as unfair criticism. Maybe it's just that I read so much from this site, but you in the past have taken many shots for the fairly constant talk of the HD, the expensive steaks, the jerseys and all that. And the thing is, it's not just you that this type of criticism is directed at. I know for a fact that this type of posting right here at CSFMB (the "I've got xxx free" or the "great seats with yyy celebrity", or "thanks to zzz for all the free shit") irritates board members. So don't take it so personally. If you're sick of hearing people say these things, maybe realize that it's a natural byproduct of the way you describe your lifestyle. And hey Mac, it's not just people that need to "improve their position in life" that make this complaint. I don't think it's jealousy that drives this particular argument. The amount of talk about the expensive/big timer lifestyle comes off as tacky even to those who are quite satisfied with their position in life. Just my 2 cents. Mahalo. |

Nobody likes the kid who got the pony who comes and rubs it in to the rest of the kids who got baseball cards for Christmas. God Bless for getting all the great free stuff. We'd all be naive if we didn't think you got it. But, you don't have to gloat about it like a giant douche. |

And the baseball cards are now worth a fortune. How ironic. If you walked into a bar and heard a guy talking like a giant douche about how much money he had or what great perks he got would you pull up a stool next to him, or would you go to the other end of the bar? |

It's all about networking and good business to plug getting free Hawks, Bulls, Cubs, Sox tickets and or free drinks at a bar or free swag in general. These guys reach the fan bases of all the Chicago teams and what better way to plug their product then having guys who reach their fan base on a daily basis attend the games and talk about the product and what a great time they had. So it's free who cares , it's not like they call up these teams and beg for tickets and most times it's the clubs offering them the tickets and all access to cover and talk with the players. If I owned a bar or eatery and a famous face or voice comes in you better belive I'm comping them in hopes the word of mouth fills my bar or eatery or they talk about it on their show where I can get peoples attention about my product. For those not in the business world this is how it works guys and it's a one hand washes the other. I don't have to defend Mac and I won't but the guy is as humble as a person as I have ever met and if you want to hear self absortion turn on Stern , or throw on Steve Dahl for 5 minutes when he get s a job. It's all about networking and getting ahead of the game boys. |

Post subject: | Re: The Big Timers |
At least Dahl bought his own scout seat tickets for the Sox. And I know how it works, Ed, trust me. But if you're gonna take the swag, should you not know something about the game and the players? When Harry jabbers about signing Adam Burish to "big money," does he realize that he accounted for 9 points in 66 regular season games? And one meaningless goal in 6 playoff games? Or is it the fact that he knows who Harry is, and this chubbies up the Tiny One enough to call him "Bur"? Honest answer is ..... ???? |
