Carmen teased 2 topics today just as Greenie did on Mike and Mike on their morning show. Are you that devoid of ideas? 2pm - 6pm is the best of M&M on AM1000 with 6-7 the best of whatever?

The 2 teases
Why are the Lakers a lock to win the series - we'll tell you next (17-0 when in a situation similar to the current series)

What's imminent that you may never see again in your lifetime? We'll tell you next (The Big Unit's 300th win)

I understand these are current sports stories but can we have a different angle a little less obvious imitation

The teases are always too forced. Good hosts can decently sell them or make them seem genuine, but Carm's seem like he's been preparing during the whole segment to drop them and sound completely unnatural

Here are the two teases I've heard in the last couple of days (as close as I can remember):

Carmen: Wonder what Jurko's wife emailed to me this morning? Stay tuned and find out!

and this gem:

Carmen: What did Jurko do at his son's hockey game last? Stay tuned for details!

Needless to say, I immediately turned the staion as I really don't give a flying fuck about the personal lives of any of these dorks.

Deadly poison mustard gas is spreading quickly thru some chicago neighborhoods... find out which ones after a break!

I think this was Justin Craig idea, as Mac before he left was doing these too. Yea, I don't know what Jurco or his what his wife does, will keep anybody coming back.

The only thing I'm afraid of is tuning my radio to AM1000 between 2 and 6. I used to rarely miss an hour of the show, now I rarely listen.

Those were the days..

Agree with everything.

One thing about the subject line (Re: Afternoon Saloon = M&M in the morning)...I think that's more of an insult to M&M. The Saloon can't even hold M. Greenberg's jock (when it comes to radio talent)...and he's not even an athelete!

...yeah i know, bad analogy.

Unfortunately, the 2 main drivers (Carmen & Silvy) at the station are both terrible at this. Like someone mentioned above, there is a proper way to handle it. Of course you're going to take several commercial breaks during the show, and there's nothing wrong with giving your listeners an idea of what's coming up after the break. The problem is, these 2 clowns try to pump teases as though they have breaking news at the start of every new segment. Wrong. If you had something breaking, you'd break it right now. That's what breaking news is - breaking.

If you're confident that you put on a solid show, you don't have to oversell non-issues. You can simply say "when we return, we'll shift gears to talk about XYZ" or something to that effect. You don't hear pros like Mac or Bernstein say "you'll never believe what XYZ said/did, we'll tell you after the break." That's amateur bullshit.

Strongly agree with this thread. "When we come back, another mention of what bar I went to last night, and how they treat me and my friends so well..."

Sounds like a college station.

It's not Justin's 'idea' it's good radio - if executed in a natural way.

Remember Justin was Mike and Mike's Producer for years.

The part I don't like about Mike and Mike is that they've become caricatures of themselves - how can Golic continue to be called 'the guy that will eat anything' when he's dropped several dozen pounds?

I noticed that Mac, Jurko and Harry were becoming caricatures of themselves the past year. The no-nonsense driver of the show, the affable and at times goofy ex-jock, and the whippin' boy / comedian.

Keep it.

Wow. I think you hit the nail on the head and it's what I'm disliking about Jurko and Carmen right now. They don't seem themselves.
