Post subject:  Good For Jurko

I have a newfound respect for Jurko after the description of his interactions with Reinsdorf. He was confronted by one of the more powerful people not only in sports, but in this city, and he basically thumbed his nose at the guy.

I applaud you for not apologizing. Whether you recognize it or not that was a pure power play he was making and you held your ground. Now JR is a petulant little man and will most likely try to get back at you, but at least you have your integrity.

I hope that a producer will pull the tape of the discussion from a couple of months back where Harry described a discussion with Reinsdorf and ended by saying that Reinsdorf doesn't hold grudges. We can all have another nice laugh at Harry's expense.

This is the beauty of the FU money Jurko earned in the NFL. He is not beholden to anyone. On the other hand Harry has 10x the money Jurko has and is a completely spineless turd.

A thought that just occurred to me, while Mac was the biggest earner on MJH, he was also the least wealthy by far.

This one will be interesting.

I have met many many people that fall in line to kiss the Reinsdorf ring and it is a sickening display of heads bowing

And Jurk is 100% right in not bowing to Reinsdorf, especially with what he does for a living now.

What makes it so interesting is Harry working the other angle. My guy Harry on the verg of becoming the new Irv Kupcient, gotta be everyones friend.

I do agree with GD on this one, Reinsdorf holds grudges like nobody around and he does not go away quietly.

anyone remember an Albert Belle signing once the other owners voted against him in his 2004 lockout, so he said "Fine, F U all" I will start the bidding at $50 million for this guy! lol

I seriously cannot tolerate Harry. He kept trying to reason with Jurk about the situation and the big man didn't give in. Good for Jurk

This came up earlier in the summer too was basically when Carm and Silvy were doing mid mornings, they had Jerry on for an interview and peppered him with questions that weren't 'on the script' ( I don't remember the specifics) which led to Jerry essentially hanging up on the call and telling them that he would never come on that station again. Jurko stood up for the guys later that afternoon and basically called Jerry out for being a bully to Carm and Silvy. Jurko hasn't let his guard down one bit on this. I remember listening earlier this summer and he was lathered up about it still to this day - saying how he still felt that Jerry tried to bully them and he wasn't going to kiss up to get an interview and how he could care less if Jerry was ever on the station again.

It was opening day, 2005 with Silvy, Carm and Reinsdorf. Maroitti was let go that December and Silvy and Carmen were the unofficial mid-morning show (the slot officially became theirs in late April or early May).

They were to talk about opening day and the White Sox, and the discussion got to long-term contracts concerning a Sox player, and Reinsdorf griped how he made that mistake once and would try to avoid it again. The mistake he was referring to was his referencing the Bulls and possibly MJ or Phil Jackson, along those lines. The conversation turned to the Bulls with Silvy and Carmen questioning him about a few things. They were excellent questions, not overly critical or challenging, but definitely threw Jerry off course. He answered their questions, a bit agitated it seemed, then at the end when they were ready to wrap it up, he fired away saying he didn't like the way the interview had gone, that they were supposed to have a nice chat about opening day and that the two of them would never have a shot at the big gun or something like that ever again.

MJH discussed it later that afternoon and re-played it. I remember hearing that both of them later made good with Reinsdorf, but specifically remember Carm a few years ago (while filling in for Mac) still say that Reinsdorf hated him.

At the time of the incident with Jerry, the White Sox were still with ESPN 1000, but there was tension between the station and the Sox, and of course, 670 The Score wanted the Sox badly. ESPN 1000 was pissed that they had overpaid severely for the Sox and Bulls (it was a long-term contract, like almost 10 years, if not 10), and then Reinsdorf was mad at a few things, among them - the hiring of Mariotti a year earlier, and of course the Sunday morning two hour "Inside the Cubs" show with Tom Shaer. Some believed ESPN 1000 was purposely trying to piss off Jerry so that the team would break the contract early, since the deal cost the station so much money. A month later, Jerry appeared on the Mike North Morning Show and it was announced the Sox were going to 670. Were Silvy and Carmen setup? I don't believe it. I just honestly believe it was bad timing and that Jerry is a crab ass.

As for today, Harry's act is long, long worn out. I think the afternoon show would be acceptable if it were just Carm and Jurko, or maybe Carm, Jurko and Hood if they want three voices.

Um...I knew about the apple thing...I was listening to ESPN a lot back then...I was just wondering what happened this week.

But thanks Hawk and Martin.

I hope Carmen learned his lesson about trying to make up with a guy like Reinsdorf. He does not forgive and forget and now both Silvy and Carm put themselves in a position of inferiority to the chairman.

In the early years of WSCR none other than Mike North used to scream to high heaven that carrying the games of the local clubs on the station presented a huge conflict of interest.
Of course he soon realized that selling himself like a crack whore trumped any foolish notion of integrity.

Jurko bumped into JR waiting for the elevator in the parking garage. JR brought up that he was still mad at Jurko for taking shots at him years ago regarding the "bite of the apple" thing. He said he wanted an apology, but Jurko said he took the "we'll just agree to disagree" route instead. Harry came up at the end of the conversation and walked away with JR. Harry later told Jurko that when Jurko left JR said "Harry, your guy is an asshole".

the interesting part is that Jurko didn't ask "well, did you agree with him"...I have a feeling he knew the answer

Reinsdorf own the Bulls, Sox and 1/2 of the United Center and this is the type of petty assed bullshit he obsesses over.
UNREAL.
