He is basically replacing Gload. If Erstad can play anywhere near he did in his better years, it will be a great signing. |

LMAO @ Frank. Man I knew that post was coming from you. LOL. I can't wait another 9 days to get this one off my chest though. I'm all Bears baby. Can't wait to get down there and sunbathe nude on the beach with the honeys. But I still don't like this 2007 Sox team on paper. |

Kenny Williams doesn't make trades or signings so the fans can feel good about their team in the off season. He lets the cubs do that. |

And now we'll have to hear Harry gloating all day about how Erstad used to be a punter. The White Sox are going to be one of the slowest teams in baseball again. The only speed that have is Pablo Ozuna who can't play defense and his bat is still suspect. And they don't know where to play the guy. |

The White Stocking are cheap. Why is this signing a surprise? |

Yeah, we could have way overpaid for the chronically injured like Cliff Floyd. Instead we paid market value. |

As for speed, the sox do have Jessie Owens..i mean Jerrie Owens |

I'd rather they had Carl Lewis... I mean Carl Crawford. |

i dunno if you heard this jason, but pods had hernia surgery, so he gone til maybe late april. and even then, he wont be 100% til sometime in may. its not a great signing, but people said the same thing about jermaine dye. i still think kenny is gonna have one more big move (i.e., crawford, or trade some of these prospects for a proven pitcher) left in him before spring training starts. bottom line is if buehrle, contrares, and garland pitch even in the same area code as they did in 2005, sox are gonna be right in the think of things. if not, gonna be a long summer on the southside. bears |

Bears... Superbowl... Honestly, It's too early to be worried about the Sox. They still have time to put a good team together. |

By the way, Larry S., the numbers on Erstad: $750,000 in 2007, team option for 2008 at $3.5 million ($250,000 buyout). He's a career .286 hitter, and has only had two seasons of less than 100 games in 11 years. Cliff Floyd? $3.5 million base salary, up to $7.5 million with incentives in 2007. He is eligible for up to $17.5 million! over the next two years after that. Meanwhile, Floyd only averages 101 games a year, is a career .279 hitter, and has played less than 100 games 5 times in a 14 year career. But yeah, the Sox are being cheap. Move from your current place of residence, the power lines over head are obviously affecting you. |

History shows that in baseball you don't have to spend a lot of money on your team to be successful. Look at the Angels, A's, Cardinals and Twins. The Yankees should win every year if all you had to do was buy people. So I agree with you guys on that one. But it's never too early to talk baseball. Even though it is about Da BEARSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS right now. Posednick hurt his groin because he was a newleywed. |

Even if you platoon Mackowiak and Erstad you have are better in LF than you were last year, plus you have an able backup in center. They do look awfully slow. |

the best part about them being slow is that joey cora is out of the 3rd base coaches box. |

LOL> That's true Frank but remember Cora even sent Konerko home last year on a play. WE need speed to play defense and put pressure on the other team offensively. With them not having speed I'm afraid their going away from Ozzie Ball to the Jerry Manuel slugging teams or the early 2000's and we see how well that worked out. Hate to admit it, but I'd rather have Corey Patterson on the Sox this year than Brian Anderson, Makoviak, Posednik or Erstad in the outfield. At least dude could run and catch. He's going to hit about the same as all the others combined. |

According to Baseball Reference . com, the player most similar to Erstad is Shannon Stewart. ?? I would have thought Shannon Elizabeth would have been a better choice. |

If they simply expect Erstad to platoon with Pods and take over Mackowiak's role in center field (puke!) - then I'm OK with the signing. WTF... he basically replaced Ross Gload on the roster. |

Kenny has stockpiled young arms, which is what you need to pull off a big trade. No one has more to offer at the trade deadline than the Sox. Say, Kenny wants Dontrelle the Urinator. Florida will want young arms. The Sox have the most. |

I dont care what moves Kenny makes as long as the sox are in the post season and I dont have to see a team like Detroit piss away a world series. |

Quote: "Nas" Jason we have sports sections too. The MJH section is JUST for talking about the show. It's ok to look around the board.
Ditto for Linda S with the Bears anniversary salute. The only MJH anniversary I heard being celebrated was 15 weeks without a letter from management. Does the fact that Mac celebrated it at 15 weeks instead of 16 indicate he's got something up his sleeve for Superbowl week. Maybe his question for Roger Goodell is going to get him a spanking from the suits. |

few things: florida doesn't need young arms, they already have one of the youngest and best starting rotations in baseball. willis is the oldest of the group at 25, the rest all turn 23 this year. sure, they could deal willis if they fall out of contention this season, but i only see this team getting better and they'll need the guy down the stretch. when they lose him to free agency in the offseason, they get a draft pick, which is more valuable in a young system like theirs than whatever the white sox could afford to throw at them. tampa bay, similarly, doesn't need young arms, as they've got "young" in spades as it is. they're the sort of team that would rather try and find diamonds in their own rough rather than spring a deal for one of the only players bringing fans to the park. not to mention, crawford is signed through 2009 (with a team option in 2010) for a very modest dollar amount, relative to his production. the white sox do not need speed, for defense or anything else. they play 81 of their games in the tightest park in the major leagues. the cell (alternately, the joan, as i prefer it) plays singles and home runs, with very few extra-base hits. you don't need any gazelles roaming around in that outfield. |
