Maybe not fold, but all the local programming would disappear rather quickly, I'd guess. |

Quote: Maybe not fold, but all the local programming would disappear rather quickly, I'd guess. No it wouldn't. Chicago is a huge market with rabid fans. National programs tend towards the costal teams. Mike & Mike do a good job of keeping Chicago in the loop (probably because of Greenie's ties here); other national program suck. They would have to keep trying local hosts until one clicked.

Actually, they'd probably have fewer headaches. They wouldn't have an outspoken passionate employee that ruffles management's feathers, because he wants the station to DOMINATE. They could decrease payroll, put some syndicated schmuck on the air and continue to expound the 'ESPN' brand on Chicago. |

They would take a plunge though, no doubt. |

Sure they would, but sometimes you wonder (especially now during the Salisburied Schtick) if they're more interested in branding their product or actual ratings. They've taken a huge plunge from 9-noon and I don't see any sense of urgency whatsoever to improve the on-air product. Advertising dollars are important to ESPNAM1000, but I'm sure they get a load of 'national accounts' just because of those magical four letters, and they're not T.I.N.Y. |

Am I missing something? Didn't Mac just re-up a short while ago? He is not going anywhere. |

He re-upped in May of '04 for five years, I thought. That would mean he still has three years left, if I am correct. |

It's not really an issue. In order to have a radio network ESPN must have a Chicago affiliate. It makes not difference what the listenership of the individual stations are, it is the amount of the nation it covers...at least that is how it was explained to me. Nostradamus, do you care to expand on this? |
