If you don't believe me, just listen to him this morning filling in for Golic.

In fairness, nobody on ESPN Radio this morning so far (Greenburg, Olney) is willing to really question the record. Greenburg says 'if' a lot, but doesn't have the balls to totally go against Bonds.

This Parker guy is pretty dumb though with his early morning Bonds statements.

No question about it. Rob Parker is just spewing the same crap that most guys on ESPN do when the Barry Bonds issue comes up. Thank God for the Bob Costas interview though to put that "simple minded" lemming in his place. Costas has such a simple and clear way to make every defense of Barry Bonds seem utterly foolish.

The only other guys who I think has thought clearly on this issue are Eric Kassilias(?) and Doug Gotlieb. Everyone else I have heard on ESPN makes me want to vomit in my mouth when the Barry Bonds topic comes up.

Rob: "Taking steroids is not cheating."

Bob Costas tore him a new one and now even Greenburg had to tear him up after that statement.

Who is this guy? He doesn't exactly have a radio voice either.

Yeah, I listened to about 25 seconds of his opening statement. I've never heard of him but my first impression was that he was some dumbass S.F. Giants fan who won a contest to co-host the show. But he didn't say anything I didn't expect a guy on that station to say, so I wasn't surprised or insulted.

I heard that too. Idiotic.

Spitballs and corked bats give an advantage but steroids don't. Idiotic.

Parker also reiterated a point that many ESPN clones try to, and it's a lame argument: why does everyone pick on Barry Bonds when there were others doing steroids, including pitchers?

Costas answered perfectly: because he's Barry Bonds. He was chasing (and now surpassed) the most sought after record in baseball history. He compared him to the President doing something that only a Congressman would, and yeah--on a grander scale, things are under a bigger microscope.

I missed the Costas interview...sounds like it was good stuff.

Costas nailed it. He makes too much sense to be on ESPN.

Why doesn't he get a national syndicated show ala Dan Patrick?

I respect Costas, but he remind me of Dennis Miller too much with references to players from the 1920's.

Two worse pro barry bond arguements:

1. He still had to hit the ball. The steroids/HGH only helped him in working out and recovery.

- It doesn't matter if roids directly or indirectly affects your hitting. It still has some performance enhancing effect or they wouldn't do it.

2. Lots of players were doing it. Why just vilify Bonds?

- What WZ/Bob Costas said. Also, it doesn't matter if 50% of players were doing it. It is still cheating. It's never worked when someone gets pulled over for speeding and you tell the officer "lots of people speed and don't get caught". Well you did get caught so deal with it.

Bonds is a great player, but he didn't go on this HR rampage until he became noticably bigger. I think there's a direct correlation there.

Cheating is cheating, and Barry Bonds isn't Neifi Perez. He broke the all-time HR record. I think that means there's just a tad bit more attention that should be paid to that.

I caught the last half and it sounds like the first half was identical to the 2nd half. Rob doesn't have a voice for radio or a face for tv.

When Barry Bonds started taking steroids, which was believed to have been between the '98 and '99 seasons where he packed on about 25-30 pounds, they weren't illegal in BASEBALL. So he wasn't cheating. He was doing what athletes do, taking advantage of every tool at his disposal to be the best. And at the time steroids or HGH or whatever he was taking, were the way to go.

Personally I think Barry Bonds is one of the worst people in sports and one of the worst role models of all time. But drugs or not, he hit all 756 home runs, so it's his record.

They have been banned since 1991.

No, I put it where I meant to put it. People were talking about Bonds and his worthiness of the record on this thread so I chimed in.

Thanks Joe for getting to that before I could. I'm tired of this BS argument that they weren't illegal in baseball that has been running around for years. Apparently the media just caught on to this, because your link is about the third or fourth story I've seen about this.

understatement of the year. I usually listen to mike and mike because its easy to listen to, and North sucks, but i actually had to turn on North this morning after listening to Parker's voice for about 15 seconds, i didnt even get to hear what he was saying or who he was. Once i figured out it wasnt a caller, and a substitute co host, I had to flip the station.

speaking of which, when they tried to TAKE a caller it was a fiasco. the two calls they tried to take, both of them didn't turn their radios down.
