How do we know anyone from the other countries gives a crap about him? I'm sure the Chinese are enjoying their 22 Gold's as of now. |

Why should we give a crap for what anyone from the other countries gives a crap about anyway? Who gives a crap about the Chinese enjoying their 22 golds? |

Just because people here like to talk about Phelps doesn't mean he's a big star over the entire world. |

Albert Hofmann wrote: I hate the ESPN sensationalizing as much as the next guy, but I gotta agree with the question Greeny asks this morning. Who is a bigger star in the entire world than Micheal Phelps right now? Possibly Obama, not to sound like a McCain smear ad, but even that I doubt. For the past week and probably two more weeks, I feel like Phelps will be the most globally reconizable star in the world. I partially agree with you. Obama isn't that big of a star in other countries. That's just the hype machine going full blast when they say he's liked around the world. As for Phelps, I think he may have a certain amount of popularity (even notoriety) throughout the world, but he isn't as big of a star as Korean pop singer Rain or Nelson Mandela. |

Michael Phelps can walk into the same room as me and I would have no freakin' clue who he is. |

Greeny is wrong. Phelps has already been forgotten about in the USA. |

It was impressive that Phelps won those 8 gold medals. But the achievement has been blown all out of proportion. I wonder why the basketball teams or volleyball teams or soccer teams don't win a gold medal for every game they win. I've got to think that nobody other than swimmers have that many chances for medals. |
