Basically they will only get back about $28 M off the payroll next year with Silva, Kosoke and Samardjza gone and the difference is all of these guys are 100% Jim Hendry spent money. They are all here because of of Jim Hendry thinking each one of these guys who going to be MUCH MUCH better then they were. I consider Silva to be Bradley! Same Money, both asswipes.

Alfonso Soriano
10-14:$18M annually
Carlos Zambrano
11:$17.875M, 12:$18M, 13:$19.25M vesting player option
Zambrano receives 2013 player option if 1) he is first or second in 2011 Cy Young vote or if he finishes in top 4 in 2012 Cy Young vote and 2) he is healthy at end of 2012
Aramis Ramirez
12:$16M club option ($2M buyout)
Ramirez may void 2012 option, but doing so forfeits $2M buyout
2012 option becomes guaranteed if Ramirez:
wins one MVP in 2007-11, or
places 2nd or 3rd in MVP vote twice in 2007-11, or
wins LCS MVP once in 2007-11, or
is an All Star 3 times in 2007-11, or
is traded & Ramirez exercises 2011 option
Ryan Dempster
12:$14M player option
Carlos Silva
12:$12M mutual option ($2M buyout)
Jeff Samardzija rhp
5 years/$10M (2007-11), plus 2012 & 2013 club options

5 years/$10M (2007-11), plus 2012 & 2013 club options

signed Major League contract with Cubs 1/07, giving up football
$2M signing bonus
10:$3M
no-trade clause????
total value may reach $16.5M with exercise of options
must return bonus & much of remaining $10M if he returns to football

What about Carlos Pena and his $10 million (I know $5 million is deferred to January 2012)?

Grabow, the reliever, doesn't make huge money, but pretty good for a relief pitcher, I think his contract may up as well, that's probably $3 milllion or so.

If this thread is in relation to Pujols, they have enough to give him $20 million a season, at least for next season, and probably future seasons since he'd replace Soriano's contract in a few more seasons, but the Cubs have to both 1) plug in as many younger players as possible to keep the payroll down and 2) spend, spend spend. What's the point of signing Pujols if you're not going to be able to address other needs that can't be filled by the minor league system?
