well, the true Cub fan I am, I tuned into Cubs Insider on 720 yesterday and they replayed snippets of the conference

hello? I couldnt believe what I heard

"It is with tremendous pride that Mike Quade is the new manager of the Chicago Cubs" (the tone of his voice was just absolutely...well, u just had to hear it...it was an "oh, god" moment)

What are the Cubs supposed to do? No press conference? Just a one sentence blurb on Muskrat's twitter? I know it's hard to believe, but all sports teams are a BUSINESS. Part of being a BUSINESS is marketing and spinning all decisions in the best possible light. Which is what Hendry tried to do with the Quade hire.


And before this goes into a Hendry needs to be fired counter, not a single person on this board disagrees with that.

I actually agree with this sentiment. Hendry does seem to have this "extremely proud" BS mentality when announcing shit. If the Cubs had a winning pedigree, this may carry some muster, but obviously this is not the case. This hire has nothing to do with pride, but rather pinching pennies and lowering expectations which will backfire bigtime when this team does not win. We'll see how much pride Hendry has when trying to defend why the team is not winning next year and the boos are reigning down on Quade.

For my own sanity I might need to take a break from the Cubs section until January or so......this is getting ridiculous

+1 I just don't like how the only options for baseball talk on the Score now is all of the SABERmetrics talk of Speigal and Bernstein. Either that or weird stuttering and odd opinions from Terry. Not that Murph was a genius or anything but he would talk about the Cubs and his show was an easy listen. I feel like I could get this from the Grobber but I am not staying up til 3AM to find out.
