I'm not reading the whole thing, but I'm assuming that the smart businessman remark is due to the belief that people will show up to watch a guy manage a game.

I think that isn't really true, unless the manager is also starting at second base and hitting second.

No one will really pay to go see a guy come out of the dugout every day and wave his hat to the crowd.

These are Cubs fans were talking about here. You know that there are many Cubs fans who will go because its Ryno. Cubs fans are crazy like that. I remember when Ryno was managing the Peoria Chiefs, when they played the Kane County Cougars in Geneva, my Family went to a few of the games & the place was packed with fans to see Ryno.
Fron a baseball standpoint, Ryno is a very good baseball manager & certainly would not be the embarrassment that Quade is. From a business standpoint, the Cubs could build a marketing campaign around Ryno, which they certainly could use right now with fan interest at an all time low, at least for the last 25 years.
Rickets should have fired both Hendry & Quade at the all star break.

I guess my whole opinion is that you keep the dead weight around, and don't let Hendry do anything major until the dead weight contracts (Z, Soriano, etc) are done. Ricketts is basically a mid market owner in a major city, and he doesn't have the financial backing like the Tribune did. I can see firing Quade. I can see firing Hendry (in fact, do you guys want Kenny? I'd rather have Rick Hahn running my team). I just think that the Cubs are going to have to start running their organization like the Atlanta Braves. Don't get stuck with a bunch of bad contracts, and build from the bottom up.

What makes you say that? He has had some success in the minors. So did Quade and he has proven that the major leagues are too much for him. Maybe Ryno is perfect yelling at kids but no one knows how he would handle MLB vets.

I feel pretty confident saying that Ryno would be a better major league baseball manage than Mike Quade,,,& I said just that the day Quade was hired.

ryno is the caucasion ozzie guillen. not so much in the media but in the clubhouse and on the field. fuck- this is a no brainer. I know it sounds hokey but think about it. Ryno is the manager. Gracey is the hitting coach. Bobby Denier, Bowa, DeJesus, Maddux and more. Think of the interviews. Think of the dugout shots. As much as I despise the Cubs, I cannot believe this is being debated. Ryne is a baseball guy on offense and defense. Cub fans will love him like they always have. What is there to argue?

I turned the Cubs game on for a few minutes & yea, that was the most empty seats that I have seen for a weekend game at Wrigley in a long long time.
I wonder if Joe Ricketts has grounded little Tommy yet?

Certainly good to see. It'll be nice to see the place 75% empty come September when they're 30+ under .500 and Quade is still clapping away!!

Yup. Just like back in the pre-1984 days. Its nice to see the balance of things swing back towards the regular fan, who may actually be able to afford tickets again in a few years if this "adjustment" continues.
The Ricketts are going to lose their ass on the Cubs. Oops...
