Obviously I'm not a Cubs fan. But I don't hate them either.

So from a neutral point of view, the better story is that they don't win the World Series after Theo, Jed and Joe have had their run with the Cubs.

That they do everything right. Have good young players. Have the best manager and the best President and GM and still don't win it. They make the playoffs 6 straight years and just get beat.

There would be some sort of better lesson there I think.

Just like I think this thing reaching 108 years is the better story than had they won in 1969, 1984 and 2008.

This thing is so impossible. That they haven't just run into a World Series title. Nobody will ever touch this record. And by the way, nobody will ever touch the 2nd and 3rd place teams either - The White Sox and Red Sox droughts. Their run of not winning was equally amazing and still the Cubs have 20 years over both of them.

So Cubs fans don't want to hear it but them not winning is the better story for everybody else.

Funny you say that. In 2003, when I was convinced they would win the World Series while they were ahead of the Marlins, I had this odd feeling of loss. It was like I was going to lose the thing that makes the Cubs so "romantic". I agree that if they end up winning it, they'll lose that innocence of being lovable losers. However, they could go the way of the Blackhawks and capture the interest of non-baseball fans.

I don't think they are lovable losers anymore. That changed after Bartman.

Yea, I agree.

As a Cubs fan, I obviously want to see them win it all but I'm well aware that it won't be good for baseball. The Cubs in the NLCS and World Series is probably the last huge draw in baseball now that football reigns supreme. Once they win it all, they'll lose their charm.

But what a way to go. It'd be like a heroin overdose.

Beardown: Great. It's agreed. Cubs fans should not want the Cubs to win a World Series. It's better that way.

Cubs Fans: Yeah!!! Wooo hooo!!! Lose. Lose. Lose. Wait...what? :?

Beardown:

Cubs Fans: Fuck you!!!!

A better story would be for them to win it all 15 years in a row.

From losers to ultimate winners. That's the movie ending.

or have a really long winning streak during the regular season without ever addressing what happens afterward
