Always thought Boston made more sense. Family history etc. plus it would warm the cockles of Dolphin's heart as well.

I know, I asked what happened. I mentioned in the DBOTW thread, he's been right about Cubs things in the past that I haven't shared. 2 to 3 things come to mind. When I heard something big and all the Lester speculation I went for it.

I won't do it again,

Fuck that. Ill take 99 false rumors and one true one.

Maybe dont add stuff though. Just say Cubs to make signing tomorrow

The Red Sox have offered him a contract of an unknown sum for five years. I'm less than giddy but unsurprised about that.

They will be offering a contract to Pablo Sandoval as well. That doesn't make me any less of a sad panda in regards to our chances about Lester.

Peter Gammons offered this nugget: I get the feeling that the Cubs think Jon Lester is going back to Boston

I could see the Yankees swooping in to pay Lester. That would be a very Yankee move.

According to a major league source the Red Sox offer to Jon Lester falls into $110-$120 range over six years.

That is shockingly reasonable, which rules the Cubs out summarily by nature.....

That is lower than other offers I expect he will receive.

I know a lot of 37 year old pitchers that are worth $20M a year.

A silly slow play. That cat said it wasn't about the money. Sure, that works when debating between 6/150 and 6/155 but not for 6/120 and 6/150.

Opening bid. He has already said he is going to take his time with this his team will obviously be playing one offer against the other. There is no reason to start the negotiations higher as the first bidder.

How much more than 20 per year is he worth? (if that)

Theo has said he doesn't want to pay a guy for his past. With pitchers,it's always a guessing game. I would rather see the Cubs go get a couple of Hammels. The guy they had last year and the guy on the Phillies. They would have plenty of money left over.

Im pretty sure he conceded with free agent pitching you kind of have to pay up.

Jimmy, Hammels makes as much (22 million per year for for more years at least) if not more than Lester will get and he'll cost you players.

I like Hammels, but I think he and Lester are similar and Lester costs way less.

We'll see. I think the opening contracts given out during this free agency period should be troubling for owners moving ahead in the next two months.

I thought Hammels from Philly was signed up for 5 years for 90 mil. I heard that on SportsChat on Comcast. Maybe it was 4 years.

Yes, 4 years. The 5th year is a 20m option. So that would be 5 for 110

I was certain PAsta meant a couple of Jason Hammels types... not Cole...

ok so you were off by appx 22 days, but i'll be damned if you didn't call this one WAAAAYYYYY before the scrum of other posters here could consult "their guys" and get the word.

obviously your post was satirized and ridiculed and effectively the father of a new board meme "my guy says that [signing/trade/happening] is going to happen [sometime]" and hey it IS entirely possible that you were technically full of shit when you posted this, figuring that there's a 50/50 chance the cubs sign lester and if tehy ended up signing him you'd get all the shine in the world.... but since you boldly declared this just short of a month ago and because you backed up any questioning/criticizing of your methodology by referring to YOUR GUY/S WHO ARE USUALLY SPOT-ON ABOUT THIS SORT OF THING [of course, you couldn't give us examples of when they "had stuff" because if you ran to us and told us you'd potentially get "your guy/s" in trouble, which is understandable, if not another layer of the brilliant psychological operation you might or might not have pulled off here] YOU SIR ARE OUR BROWNS CHICKEN POSTER OF THE YEAR!

if there's still those year end awards for all of the various categories, unless there's a special category recognizing psychic/clairvoyant prowess, you are getting my vote for poster of the year hands down. IT'S TIME, CUBS FANS, IT'S TIME! NORTHSIDE UNDERSCORE DAN SAID SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

so yeah TLDR = HATS OFF TO NORTHSIDE DAN AND/OR HIS GUY/S!!!! THEY WERE WAY OUT IN FRONT OF THIS ONE AND AT THE VERY LEAST THEY USED THE HIGH PROBABILITY OF LESTER JOINING HIS CHOSEN-ONE BUM-BUDDY FEO EINSTEIN IN SHANGRI-LA, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS WRIGLEY FIELD! HOME OF THE WORST LOCKERROOMS IN ALL OF MLB! COME FOR THE CRAMPED QUARTERS, STAY FOR THE RATS! 100% OZZIE-GUILLEN-DISPROVED!
