Bryant won't be called up before next week's trip to Pittsburgh at the earliest.

Coghlan was a 3B as a minor leaguer but moved because of Miguel Cabrera. He has also played 2B.

I did not know any of that before Len Kasper, the best play by play man in baseball, informed me.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. At least in the short term.

I don't think they were going to slap him in the face any more by bringing him up the very first day they had the extra year of control either, but the injuries to Olt and LaStella may have changed that.

I think Coghlan is playing 3b so they can play him, Bryant, Soler, and Fowler all at once.

But people keep talking about Bryant like he's a third baseman. He's not.

And yes he was slapped in the face like every other prospect who is similarly held down (most of them)

for someone who is not going to play 3b, i find it interesting that he has played nothing but 3B in Iowa. if the plan were for him to come up and play left, why would they not at very least be making use of his time down in Iowa by having him play LF? he may or may not play outfield eventually, but to say that he has no chance of playing 3B with the Cubs seems unlikely to me. this team has outfielders, they need a 3B.

That does not make sense tho.

If Bryant is at 3B, Coughlan can still play with him, Soler and Fowler.

Coughlan, Fowler, and Soler in the OF and Bryant at 3B.

mofo makes a good point as well, why is he only playing 3B at Iowa?

Probably because any schmoe can play left field. So why not increase his skill set by having him play 3B while he's got a chance to uninterrupted?

You know, to be honest, I thought he was playing the OF at Iowa. I was wrong. Thank you for the correction.

I dont think he's a long term option at 3B

RFDC, why else would they be playing Coghlan at 3b? My comment operates under the assumption they DONT want Bryant playing 3b

if you know he is going to be your left fielder, why would you waste his time at iowa playing a position he has no future at? he may eventually end up in the outfield, but the cubs have nobody at the big-league level keeping him from playing his natural position. they can field a better lineup with him at 3rd. i would think he will at least get a chance until a better option comes along.

I think Coghlan is playing there now because the better options on the big league roster are gimpy. And you know Maddon likes a team full of Zobrists.

I thought Cogs was at 3rd because they pulled a double switch, removing Herrera and Olt & LaStella are nursing injuries.

Albert Pujols started 52 games at 3B as a rookie. He had a pretty good career after he moved elsewhere...

Rich had one of the best posts ever here. (If you're into futbol) He broke down the top 5 managers in English futbol history. It was a thing of beauty. I want him back. And I also want spinninbucket and crumbs krause to make their glorious returns. Bring back the old days I say. Bring them back.

I was just trying to fan the flames. I seem to recall someone here comparing Brett Jackson with Mickey Mantle, so might as well jump on the crazy train.
