Watch today's game be an offensive breakout for both teams with Arrieta and deGrom going.

The weather today is an appropriate temperature for the Cubs offense.

These Mets are not a contender. The NLWC is Giants, Pirates and Cubs for two spots. If you agree with the "randomness of the playoffs" theory I don't see how you wouldn't advocate for a big move by the Cubs. You look at that Cardinal lineup and I think they are ripe to be a fatality of playoff randomness.

Most Cubs fans understand that management needs to balance short term interests against the long term health of the franchise. Fans had to put up with several years of terrible baseball to fix the free wheeling ways of the prior regime. I am hopeful that they will make a few solid moves, but I wouldn't bet the farm on 2015. You either acquire pitchers that are going to be free agents (i.e. they come pretty cheap) or you get players that will help you this year and beyond. Those players would cost quite a bit but bring long term benefits. Luckily, the Cubs have plenty of runway with the payroll.

don't be so sure about that payroll statement

A difference making pitcher is going to cost you to acquire whether on long or short term. You will lose prospects you once considered untouchable unless you stay pat.

Who was considered untouchable? Out of everyone currently still in the minors, I think Baez was the only one once thought as untouchable. It would be dumb to have Schwarber as untouchable because AL teams could find far more value in him, and could pay for that value.

There is no one in the Cubs farm system I wouldn't consider trading. Theo and Hoyer hopefully feel the same.

this team can't hit. plus their close games are leading them to dusty baker the bullpen.

no chance i go "all-in" this year.

their record is currently built on an unsustainable good run in 1-run and extra inning games.

So you won't be posting in these threads anymore? Because that would be some great news.

don't blame me for busting the sunshine and hugs narrative that kasper, maddon and doofus crew spit every day.

this is a flawed team that's teetering very close to mediocrity.

Just like the Hawks were a dead ass team in the finals that was going to lose bad.

Your recent thoughts on sports have not been so hot.

Better take a sabbatical until after the NFL season is over.

The offense continued to struggle mightily in the first 2 games of the series. But they won both games and as good as the Met's pitching is, it can be understood to some degree. But it sure was nice to see them break out a bit in the final game of the series, to complete the sweep. The Cub's bullpen has been pretty darn good for about 7 weeks now and Madden seems to have a good grasp of what each guy in the pen can handle. With Soler almost ready to return, I am curious to see if they decide to waive Edwin Jackson, or send one of the bench guys (Szczur?) back to AAA. I know Jackson's numbers are actually pretty good, but it's obvious that Maddon doesn't trust him to pitch in games other than mop-up duty or when he has exhausted all other options. It's also obvious that they can't get squat from another team for him, or they already would have. Szczur and any other bench player that might otherwise be sent down, has more value to the team at this point in helping the team win games. Time to waive Jackson already.

Why do the Cubs always let these superstar sluggers go?

Bour, McGahee, Fox, Hoffpauir, Colvin, LaHair
