Weirdest lie perpetuated by cubs fanbase. Scrooge McRicketts is pocketing all the dough.

I think this is the point where a sports radio guy would gulp and say....I think this is a bit.

Seriously though, we have no idea if Ricketts will spend. He could be a cheap owner. He could spend too. No one knows til it happens

Yeah, it's getting odd with Kirkwood. That is why my original response to him was something on the order of, "I won't hold it against you when you are enjoying the Cubs World Series victory".

I think the biggest flaw in Theo's plan is that the major league club still sucks.

Ask yourself this, will Almora and Bryant be as good as Eaton and Abreu?

If I told you they could be their equals, wouldn't you take that?

Yes, I love Eaton and Abreu.

the same friends will then tweet me about how great Kris Bryant is.
Then my recorded speech plays on how you're not getting Bryant at #2 by winning 80 games.

I think the Washington Nationals are a good example of the Cubs future floor.
Always seems like they should be good but injuries and acouple bad free agent signings have held them back.
I wouldn't strive to be where they're at but you could do much worse.

The ceiling is obviously the Red Sox and their 3 recent World Series wins, still stacked farm and lots of money to spend.

but you probably could have gotten Kyle Schwarber by winning 80 games. I assume there were some other guys looking good out of the Bryant draft who were drafted after him.

Win at MLB and trust the guys you are paying a BOATLOAD to in scouting/front office to find you good players. Right now they are shooting fish in a barrel but being lauded as expert marksmen

I'm considering every player on the Cubs balance sheet. I just see a lot more value there.

One that was developed from Cubs stock? If not, I would say that Sammy Sosa qualifies as a pretty good position player in the early 00's.

Pretty sure Sammy was a Ranger prospect they got via the Sox when he was already on the big club. For George Bell (not a young man at the time)

Well, who is pocketing it then? They can't be the most profitable team in the big leagues without somebody pocketing some dough.

That's like when I see people talking about taking value when placing a bet. I don't want value. I want winners

:?:

Tommy Boy is pocketing the money. Paying off papa, the banks and then saving the rest or his Disneyland hotel, signs and other goofball shit.

He built a Dominican Academy and Spring Training facility to give the illusion he'll spend whatever it takes. But the academy costed Ricketts $10 million tops and Mesa paid for $84 million of the new Spring facility.

He's such a bitch.

But nobody is good enough to consistently "pick" winners. A successful gambler has to look long term, exploit bad lines, and put the odds in his favor.

Okay, I misunderstood and thought you were saying the lie was that he was pocketing it. The money spent in the Dominican is insignificant, like a few million bucks.

looking at the players both teams are kind of even in the talent department. i give both teams 10 Hatchpoints

Cubs:
Rizzo +2
Castro 1
wood 1
arrieta 1
smarj (swap for top prospect pending) 1
bryant 1
baez 1
schwarber 1
general prospect depth 1

Sox:
Abreu 2
Sale 2
ramirez 1
eaton 1
gillaspie 1
garcia 1
quintana 1
rodon 1

Am I forgetting anyone? hammels won't bring a blue chipper.

Castro is easily a +2. He is in the Top 5 in OPS out of all 60 starting middle infielders, third among SS.

Ever since Theo/Hoyer arrived they've been pretty spineless about setting expectations. Better to not set a timetable so an evaluation of their work would be impossible. Any reasonable fan should expect playoff contention by year 4 at the latest and definitely by year 5. But unless these two yahoos start packaging their precious prospects for major league talent or sign a legitimate free agent or two the Cubs won't be competitive for at least another 2-3 years.

Take a look at the development of Rizzo and Castro. They've had 3-4 years of struggles and learning to get to the point of being above average contributors. A lot of Cubs fans are idiotically assuming Baez, Bryant, Alcantara, Almora, Soler (ha!), Edwards not only all make the majors but just step right in without skipping a beat. The Super Two and service time baloney is a crock of shit. How about let's figure out if they're even decent major league players before worrying about their free agency in 2021.
