I think it would be interesting to take a look at whether baseball beat ANY of the bulls playoff game ratings during their championship run. I'd venture to guess even the first round games were drawing healthy numbers

It makes me happy that you're a 90s Bulls guy. I didn't think you had any redeeming qualities until recently.

I was a huge college basketball guy in my youth. I counted down the days until midnight madness and was pretty well versed on teams across the country. I was so deep into it I asked my dad for tickets to Loyola U games for my birthday. He just laughed at the request. I sucked at basketball and was just kind of a chubby kid who threw his body around, but I liked the game. This lead me to love the pros as well even before the 90s.

My first "guy" was Dr. J. I loved the Sixers and hated the Celtics/Lakers. I knew more about the Sixers than the Bulls. Orlando Woolridge brought me to the Bulls. There was just something about his game that I liked. That was an adults only team though and much of the stuff that was reported about those guys was beyond my level of understanding (rape, drugs, insanity).

I knew both the Bulls and Jordan by the time it was his time to be drafted and he was my guy. I prayed he would fall. I distinctly remember sitting at a Hackneys at a family party and watching Jordan play against Virginia.

As many my age will probably attest, Jordan made sports magical in my childhood and probably ruined it for a few years after he retired.

I was born in '84, so I don't remember the young Jordan. My dad was and still is a college guy, so I watched more Illinois than Bulls at a very young age. The first Jordan game I remember vividly was "the shrug" game against Portland. My brother had it on, and I couldn't stop watching.

The day he returned from retirement, I remember sitting in Sunday School and not being able to sit still. Still one of the most memorable days of my life. Having grown up in Central Illinois and not having cable for many years, I basically listened to every game on the radio in the kitchen for the second 3-peat.

It was a great time, and Jordan was basically a God-like person to me and my friends. The only bad part is that I basically never saw my favorite team lose until I was a sophomore in High School (except for '95 against the Magic). It spoiled us. Of course, we always watched the Cubs, too, so I guess there was some balance there.

Yeah, and to add to the "connection" thing, I think a lot of women liked those Bulls teams a lot (certainly more than they liked football). My mom and I bonded over the Bulls a lot... anytime they were on TV, she would watch it with me. Because, you know, my crotchety old, white dad didn't like that they were allowed to travel.

Why does respecting the actual rules of the game have anything to do with being "crotchety" or white? And why is it the guys with the smart fathers never take after their dads, but ChicagoEd is exactly like Scooter?

I remember watching one of the Finals round games at home and then driving someone to Wrigleyville afterwards. Everyone along Addison from the expressway to Wrigley was outside there houses celebrating

Everybody in Chicago over 30 was a Jordan fan. It was a once in a lifetime talent for any sport and a great reason to party ala the so called Blackhawks bit......a few people have remained NBA fans vs departing once they realized it was still the NBA.
If they have important and /or playoff games at the same time - go to a sports bar and see 95% of the TV's on the B'Hawks vs on the Bulls.

The 85 Bears were a once in a generation combination of incredible talent and even more incredible characters.......I'm a huge Bears fan and an average NFL fan...BUT the "Chicago is a Bears Town" thing is so stupid.

The typical response is "well there's two baseball teams so....." Wrong Answer. If you have to ask why that's wrong I'll never convince you.
How can you compare a sport that plays once a week vs 80 something or 162 games.
The amount of time and attention you spend on the Cubs / Sox / Blackhawks or Bulls is WAY more than anyone could ever spend on the Bears and not be considered a mental patient.

Reminder I like the NFL and love the Bears but this is not a Bears town.

I think the NFL season is just about perfect in length. I don't think the extra time is a positive attribute of the other sports.

End hockey and basketball in May.
End baseball in August or early September.

It was like Christmas morning as a parent when you see your favorite kids like Frank and Terry's Peeps as happy as happy can be. It was more fun than getting your own gifts. I would like to see jimmypasta feel the same way. The only thing that would make it better would be if THE INQUISITOR, Juiced, and IMU were in jail for it and didn't get to watch.
