WRIGLEYVILLE — The Chicago Cubs are cracking down on counterfeiters, moving to phase out print-at-home tickets for single-game tickets at Wrigley Field.

The postseason proved lucrative not only for the Cubs, but also for scammers who passed off hundreds of fake tickets to unwitting fans who were subsequently turned away at the gates.

To lessen the risk, the club said it will stop offering tickets that can be printed at home for the 2017 season, leaving single-game customers with options like getting tickets mailed or printed at will call.

The only instant delivery option will be via the Major League Baseball Ballpark smartphone app.

I haven't heard yet if we are getting hard season tickets from the team. The Blackhawks cut that cost out this season. I think it kinda sucks that STH's don't get the hard tix.

I think the lede to the story is actually in the last line of it.

good call. stubhub must not have cut them in enough to maintain 100% functionality going forward. JORR had a good point re: "wrigley field premium ticket services" and all, and i'm guessing nowadays this somehow benefits the cubs in getting more people to go through "preferred means" of getting tickets as opposed to stubhubbing something cheap in the last week or two b4 a game.

I'm still seeing stub hub working...from Crain's.

of course stubhub will work, but you gotta actually go and get the actual ticket now; that takes longer. if you were, say, trying to do something on a monday in mid-late april like "hey i wonder if there's anything cheap for thursday's game?" that's where this new "ban" will have teeth and try to force you to start using "preferred methods of acquiring tickets"

that's going to be some line at will call then...

(quote added in after i typed my post)

also, upon reading the whole quote i see there's still an option to have them printed out at will-call, which i reckon will be the go-to means of replacing the printed out tickets thing.

still, this whole thing smacks of the cubs being fairly clever in using some dumbass thing that happened to a few dumbass people (getting $$$BUNKED$$$ on playoff games via the print-outs/barcodes) as a way to try and put it out there that you're supposed to use official avenues like wrigley premium or whatever the mlb app thing they're talking about is. honestly i don't think printed out tickets are truly a crisis as much as they're a useful excuse to try and wane people off of stubhub and get them into more "preferred" means of giving the cubs/mlb all of stubhub's cut.

I mean from being able to data-mine the phones that use that feature, particularly those who love to let their phone know where they are to make it find them things to do and buy. And maybe some ancillary fees, but the former is the reason imo.
