So as I said he is not going to bring you much in return unless you pair him with MANY other pieces.

Candelario could bring you an above average back of rotation starter, straight up.
if that was really the case, than I think this type of move would have been made already.

Not if you could trade Schwarber, Candelario, Russell and Cease for a Chris Archer / Gerritt Cole type.

No reason to only get a #4 if you can get a cost-controlled ToR starter without giving up Happ or Jimenez.

Getting a bunch of #4's doesn't help the Cubs much right now. They also would rather not part with Jimenez or Happ.

Remember Chuck E Cheese? Every time you get 100 tickets, did you trade it in for a set of stickers, or did you try to get 1000 tickets for the badass stuffed animal or laser pointer? Same idea.

I have always been all manners of pathetic when it comes to video games. I saved 32,000 tickets from Galaxy World and got the tv set.

Only twice in the last decade or so has the Stanley Cup been won by a #1 seed--and those were the only 2 times that a #1 seed from either conference made it to the actual Finals. 2013 Blackhawks, #1 in the Western Conf, made the Finals and won the Cup. 2008 Red Wings, #1 in the Western Conf, won the Cup.

Otherwise, you have situations like this season, effective #8 seed from the West plays the #2 or 3 seed from the East for the Cup in the Finals. That said, it seems like the actual Cup winner is usually one of a handful of teams it was predictable would be there at end. So while any team that makes the Stanley Cup playoffs can and has made the finals, winning the actual Cup is another matter.

I think the Preds are the 3rd 8th seed to make the Finals. with the 2012 Kings being the lone 8th seed to actually win the Cup.

Hockey seems to be the biggest crapshoot playoffs. Puck luck, hot goalie, whatever.

Cubs aren't getting something of value without Two of the three top prospects at beginning of year going somewhere.

Baseball playoffs are the most random. Study after study shows it.

That's where the baseball magic is for me - in the playoffs because of stuff like this. Lately it seems that I've seen far more compelling competition in the MLB and NHL playoffs than I've seen in the NBA and NFL. For the MLB though it's such a super long ride to get to that point. Can't do it.

A little buying but not too much. Cubbies will still win the division easily so you don't want to tinker with excellence.

Actually I'm quite happy about it

Great move for the Sox.

Everybody wins. Those are the best trades.

Now you know how Cubs fans felt dealing Samardzija for Russell, Straily and McKinney.

Great call on the trade, IMU. I did not think this was going to happen.
