Man, Lilly is killin the today. 9 strikeouts in 6 innings, 1 ER, he's got a single with an RBI. Is our #2 back?

I'm only listening to the game, but unless Lilly looks dead tired, they should leave him in and let him bunt.

Darkside, good call on the ninth. Another good finish by Wood although I have to admit I wasn't sure what to think before he took the mound. I was a little worried. He looked great. My wife and sister are taking their mother to the game on Sunday for Mother's Day. Nice matchup with Zambrano and Johnson going head to head. I was jealous at first but I will enjoy the day watching the Cubs in relative peace and quiet from the couch if I am not out golfing.

Let's all savor this victory today since the Cubs face a pitcher they've never faced before tomorrow (and we all know how well they do when that happens).

not to mention a pitcher that is shutting everyone down, and is the next best thing this side of a Johnny Cueto...

I heard Cueto has thrown over 100 pitchers per start his last 4.

Volquez has thrown 100+ in his last 5. He's been lights out.

Another stupid base running job by Rameriez.

They're conceding the run. 2nd baseman is back. He doesn't go on contact and gets thrown out at the plate.

How stupid is he?

Nice blow up inning for the Cub in the 7th. It may be meatball, but I enjoy watching them beat up on the Diamondbacks...not just because of last year, I just hate these expansion teams...I only rooted for the D'backs in the WS because I hated how the media tried to make this "new york's WS" for 9/11. couldn't be more of a grandstand.

Other random thoughts...I cannot stand national broadcasting for "sports town" teams, like the pud announcer saying that today is "Bear weather" and he wants to "take in a game at the bleachers" before he dies or whatever...it's just like when they're in Philly and they say, "Hey did you get a cheese steak last night?".

"Hey we're in Cleveland today...so...we're going to...well, we're in Cleveland..."

Well it was Mark Grace, so it's not exactly like some national phony...

Soriano is starting to get hot, good to see (even though he still seemed to dog it on the run in the 7th).

I think the Cubs hit Johnson hard tomorrow. He might be 12-0 against the Cubs, but this is not vintage Randy Johnson and I think the Cubs take advantage.

...Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. That's all they can say for Cleveland. They can also say they'd want to sit in the "dog pound" at Browns games.

Can't really say anything about Detroit other than... "I love coming here and dodging bullets. What a thrill."

T-Bone, You may be very happy NOT to be at the game, as there may well be showers that delay/interrupt the game on a fairly cool day. The quiet spot on the couch is looking better and better.

It should be a great match-up. Johnson may suffer more if there are interruptions due to rain. I just hope they can get it in. It's Arizona's only trip here. Nice to see the bat's get going in the late innings in the past couple of games. Soriano going around third in the 7th, looked like he was still lame, but his bat looks better now. I'm sure glad we were fortunate enough to have faced The D-Backs without having to face Peavy. This has been a great start to the 10 game homestand.

and i mean, i hate to be typing this, but Cueto beat the Cubs - as did Volquez. Scherzer was sharp.

Shirtless-Good Call. I had meant to say Brandon Webb, but typed out Peavy. Already thinking of upcoming series on this homestand. Does anyone know if Peavy (Who's Padre's are on this homestand) will pitch in the series? It would be that much better still, to miss Webb and Peavy.

Randy Johnson no longer starting, due to the weather. Now the score is reporting Zambrano is no longer pitching either. I know the weather is bad but its suppose to clear up, so why not start Zambrano and go for the sweep, instead we are throwing Shawn G.

Yeah baby, make room-for the broom!!!!! That was 3 games in a row, where the offense got it going late to pull away. Great job by Marmol and Wood in Sundays finale. Nice to see Ward getting a couple of big hits in this series. One thing that had not gone well at all through April, was Ward's pinch-hitting. But seeing him getting hits in his last 2 chances, is very encouraging. That was a really smart move by Lou, to pinch hit Soriano rather than Ward, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and first base open with one out, when he had Ward originally in the ondeck circle. He knew if Ward hit there, they would just walk him and he wanted Ward to hit there, rather than Soriano. That makes a lot of sense, as Ward is less likely to strike out and more likely to get at least one run in there. I wonder if the newspaper writers will make much of that? It was a key move.
