As heard on the Score today...Zell turned down the offer from the State (Illinois) to purchase Wrigley Field. Apparently the bid did not meet MLB criteria as well as some IRS "stuff".

Nice Job "Big Jim"

Anyway...this should FINALLY push forward the sale of the team & Wrigley. That is still scarey with Selig involved and Reinsdorf with his hand up Selig's ass making him a puppet.

I'm glad the state deal got nixed. I'm really hoping that they just sell the team and the stadium together, so the team has control of what happens with the stadium and they could make proper upgrades where needed.

My Dear Friends,
Indeed this is good news. I find it completely laughable that this "Authority" had any financial ability to purchase this stadium or had any reasonable funding to even make an offer. The claim that not a penny of taxpayer money would be used is ridiculous.
That being said, the word is that Zell must raise $650 Million by December 4th. I understand that he's hawking Newsweek to make to note, but there is more due in early 2009.
Your Pal,
Evil J.A.C.Q.U.E.S.

It's still not done, but their chance to deal exclusively is done.

Not to sound exactly like a certain morning guy, but this is the way I predicted this shit to go down. Zell, would never be patient enough Thompsons bullshit and needing to get everyone on board, even when Reinsdorf asks him.
