Nice game by Z after the shitfest last start. Pat mentioned that since the start of the '06 season, Z is 24-6 on the road? Did I hear that right or am I nuts? That's some serious numbers, especially since they sucked in 2006. Debate the inflated value of W/L all you want, that's pretty good.
Now, you gotta follow this up with at least one more W. The Houston series was just inexcuseable by the offense.

I think they'll win the series, but it wouldn't surprise me if they let one slip away because of a shit start by Marquis or whoever. McClouth is whipping our pitching staff around, and there are some days where the Cubs just flat out refuse to score runs on the road. But I'm not worried about the series. I'd be satisfied with a .500 road trip, but to sweep the bucs on the road would be a nice bit of momentum into facing LA.

Did I hear right that the Cubs are the only team in MLB this year to not lose three in a row? That's actually a pretty impressive stat.

How many runs are the Cubs averaging against the Pirates?

It's a lot. They play them 8 more times. They are gonna set a record for most runs scored against one team.

If Wood hits the lead off man, just mark it down as a run scored.

I love Kasper's reaction - "At least he got a glove on it."....Brenley didn't have much to say other than "We know he's not a good defensive OF, but you just have to hope that his bat makes up for his glove."

Brenly's quote was classic!

How did he not get an error on that?

Brenley's on fire now, digging those claws in "you could throw a dart near that first base dugout and find a better defensive left fielder"

classic

Yeah, Brenley is trying to be diplomatic, but he's ripping Soriano pretty good today, and with just cause.

Hey, as Jim Hendry says, bad outfield defense doesn't cost you games. So, this is no big deal. His $140 million dollar man is just fine. In fact, let's put him in center where Hendry originally wanted him.

F*ck Jim Hendry and his strat-o-matic philosophy on baseball.

i will never defend alfonso soriano, i hate his game, and i hated that the cubs paid him an enormous amount of money, but THIS is the payment the cubs are going to be expected to pay for periodic offensive bursts like he put out 2 weeks ago. for that 10 day period, he helped carry the cubs, and in that 10 day period, he single-handedly was responsible for at least a couple of those wins during that stretch. it is a roller-coaster existence, but hendry knew what he was getting when they signed him. he is betting the good outweighs the bad at the end of the year, and it may, when all is said and done. it just makes watching the games almost unbearable.

It wasn't just the 27th out that Soriano screwed up. In the 1st or 2nd inning he got scared of the wall again. A lot of Left Fielders would have caught that ball.

It bounced off the top of the wall and was mistakenly called a 2 run homer.

He doesn't have instincts but I think it's more than that. I really don't think he cares to make defensive plays. He jogs after balls in a lazy fashion.

It's more than just being scared of the wall. Some of these walls have give. When you're drifting back you can survive running into a fence. A lot of outfielders survive a collision. He just isn't willing to risk that cuz he doesn't care to.

What the Cubs need on their bench is a Gold Glove outfielder that can be put in for Soriano every 9th inning. That way Lou would have no reason to have Soriano out there. If the Cubs had somebody like that, and Lou didn't put him in, then he would be a bad manager. Hopefully there is a free agent out there like that for the Cubs.

They have that guy. He's at AAA. It's time to end the Edmunds experiment, and get Pie's ass back here so he can get some major league at-bats and spell the hapless Soriano in LF in close games.

Brenly's been good lately. They were brought in to be the happy-go-lucky yay team guys that Chip and Stone had neglected to be after seeing so many disappointing teams.

But as a former skipper, Brenly's fuse has finally run short. I hope he continues to rail Soriano and at the same token Piniella.

It's a frustrating situation to deal with, somewhat similar to Adam Dunn in that the guy's defense is simply useless.
