while you do indeed have a point here, honestly, this team is pretty fucking scary these days. it's not like they're the Mets or natinals where you're always a few days away from a degrom or a scherzer... Plus the Cubs technically attempted to flank their degrom/scherzer/ "ace" with a quality #2 a la syndergaard/Strasburg and thus far he's managed a combined 6.2IP with 6ER and oh yeah he crapped out last May and idk about y/o/u but all these short outings have me wondering when he's gonna go back on the DL (even if it's just a psychological crutch to try and explain away his sucktitude)

And oh yeah if that little small.to mid market team up 94 gets some pitching they can be scary. And thus it looks like you're prolly playing for a wild card and btw the NL east has the natinals Phillies Mets and braves, all of which are probably better than you. Have fun with that

EDIT: ok the natinals prolly aren't better than the cubs, but still you could argue Rendon Soto Robles and Turner (when healthy) is a core that competes with Baez Bryant Rizzo (go fish) when healthy but then their frontline starting pitching is obviously superior to the Cubs and even tho both bullpens are FLAMING SHIT at the moment I figure we'd all take Doolittle over anyone in the Cubs pen, r-right?

Yea, this is where the "We won 95 games last year" mantra needs to be stopped. Different division last year. Seemingly everyone improved while the Cubs added Brach and Delscalso.

Edwards can be optioned until May 3 as per AZ Phil at The Cub Reporter who tracks all that shit. He needs to spend 10 days in Iowa and pitch back to back three times and get his act together.

If this team gets swept in Milwaukee, Home Opener at 1-8 Is going to be brutal.

Kinda odd to hear them play Zobrists' song on the road.

Jesus Christ ..... what's left for them to fuck up? I think all there is left is losing a game on a triple play.

Nope. Clearly Darvish was intimidated by the racist chants down there thinking "it's only a matter of time before these Nazis turn on their ally, japan!" And he was reminded of a poignant moment when a young Jason Bernstein asked his father " dad's are they gonna come and round up the jews? " and tears rolled down his cheek as the full weight of white nationalism came crashing down upon him and he realized that he'd never live in a perfect world....and then ender inciarte stepped up to the plate as he thought of those train cars filled up with despondent Jewish faces and like.... Holy shit it was cold damp and rainy how can you expect a high level athlete to perform at a high level in such horrible conditions?

lol Montgomery gave up 3 runs in 2IP and lowered his ERA... to 20.25!

Carl Edwards Jr now has a 45.00 ERA! Holy shit even for a reliever with a small sample.size that 's pretty Fucking impressive cuz I think it means you average giving up 5 runs.an inning, so that's roughly 1.67 runs per out he records!

But hey let's look at the positives... Both Darvish and Chatwood got their EARs under 10 today (Darvish 8.10 Chatwood 9.82) so when you talk about ~200mil being spent on them you could just play dumb and act like you want to have high ERAs. Maybe there's a metric where we can figure out dollars per out and the Cubs will come out on top.of the league to.vindicate all these rumors and innuendo that they're cheap? Win a few press conferences and you're all good with Dan.Bernstein, and at the end.of the day isn't that what really matters?

Forget Heyward....this fucking Darvish signing will dwarf the Heyward deal. What an absolute shit show.

The snowball is rolling now.

No way. You've just become used to the Heyward deal. It's way worse.

It would have been a little more acceptable if salaries continued to rise but he bubble burst right after Heyward and he is being paid like a top 10 player.

and now his defense is not even elite anymore.

Darvish contract is bad but Heyward is worse.

I would say there is a slight over reaction here.

I still think they'll win 88ish games. Not sure if itll be enough though.

I guess I missed it, but Carl Edwards delivery has officially been ruled illegal, so he has to go back to his old form...which should fuck him up even more mentally.

You'd think the Cubs pitching coach, manager, or front office would have checked with the league on something that most people would have said was illegal in the first place.

At least Heyward has given you something and has contributed albeit not up to expectations. Heyward has also been healthy. Darvish has given you zero

not just last year

This short period of Cub success has been built on the backs of bad division play. Time's up.

and you have to remember that they signed him to be a CF, so he almost immediately lost some of the value for which he was signed

Agreed. Even with Darvish being bad, they have a lot of good in that starting rotation.

I never understood the rationale of taking a pitcher who has trouble throwing strikes and making his delivery more wonky/complicated. And yeah, now you wasted of month in spring training on a move that ended up illegal.

Darvish is the 14th highest paid starter in baseball

Heyward is the second highest paid OF in baseball

Heyward had to have been all roided up before. How else can you 'splain it?

Dude looks like a pitcher at the plate.

Injuries, especially getting hit in the face might have contributed.

This article does a good job of trying to explain it all
