Cubs need to save money for Bryce Harper or Manny Machado.

2018 will be a consolidation year. Trade some of the hitting depth like Schwarber, get out from under Zobrists contract, figure out if Edwards can close and Montgomery start 25 times.

If the deal was Verlander for Almora, I'd rather have Quintana and the extra money.

Dude is a throw back for sure. Dominant in the big games. Still real big cash and a prospect load so if Q delivers, gotta prefer that move. But if he is a bust vs LA then you could argue not getting Verlander means no 2nd title.

I dont know if Verlander would have fit in like he does w/ the Astros. We got enough vets here.

He'd have fit fine. He wanted to be here but they passed. Calculated risk still looking good if Q delivers.

They wanted a 25 man roster guy. They should have told Alex Parkman to have his dad lower his asking price.

No way. Houston gave up a pretty good package of prospects. I wanted him though. And he'd look damn good too.

Guess you were right. 9-0 w/ the Astros.

I had three rooting interests this post season:

1. Quintana wins game 7 of the WS, JORR hangs himself
2. Some team goes 11-1 or better, a human pussy hangs himself
3. Verlander wins a WS title, Shithead Steve hangs his whole family.

Go Astros

OMG....for sure. A big part of the Verlander deal was the amount of money owed him. They probably could have gotten him without Dylan Cease being included. The Quintana deal was made in large part with his club friendly deal in mind. No doubt, Verlander has performed very well and had the Cubs known he would perform at this level, rather than the more pedestrian level he had been at with Detroit, they might have made that deal. Hard to predict such a dramatic improvement for an athlete that appeared to be in decline.

Decline? He finished second in the AL CY Young voting 9 months ago shit for brains.

Yeah asswipe and this season he was basically a .500 pitcher with Detroit with an ERA of a middle of the rotation starter. That's what they call decline dipshit.

An example of a know it all with all the wrong answers...

I'd feel a lot better with

Verlander
Hendricks
Lester
Arrieta

But whatever. Go Cubs.

Do you think we beat LA with him?

Verlander with the Tigers

Tigers finished 64-98 .395 WPct

what's that, 34 games below .500?

Verlander with the Tigers pre-trade:

10-8 3.82 ERA (American League ERA) on a team with the WORST defense in MLB

pretty good numbers on a shite team (34 games below .500) with clowns in the field

apparently Theo's big brains in the Cubs front office couldn't separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of Verlander's likely value on a better team with an above league average defense.

Absolutely nothing unforeseeable about Verlander posting much improved numbers going from a last place team with butchers in the field to a first place team with top-shelf defense.

Agreed..but do you think Verlander leads the team past LA?

I dont, i still think we lose to L.A. .. The bats never showed up, so in hindsight..it probably good we didnt sign him.

Cubs scored 8 runs in games 1 through 5 vs Dodgers?

Astros scored 9 runs in games 1-5 vs Yankees.

Not a huge difference in offensive production.

Having Verlander maybe pushes the series to a game 6, which late in Game 6 is when the Astros bats finally came alive. Maybe the Cubs bats finally wake up back in warmer LA for games 6/7.

Nah. Not with that bullpen. Maybe push em to 6 games though.

What a whiff. 2017 was a rough year for Theo. At least you had the right baseball thoughts.
