It's pretty clear that the Mets and/or Phillies asked for permission to interview Hoyer for President of Baseball Operations. Theo was leaving anyway, so he moved up the timetable so that Jed could get promoted and Ricketts could say no to the other teams.

Then the Mets hired Jared Porter, who was probably Jed's choice to be GM. So why bother now.

It's all title inflation. If they want to hire an AGM from another team to be Jed's #2, they will. If not, they won't.

Give the guy a chance. He's trying to rebuild an organization out of a mess Saint Theo left.

I just wish Hahn would have contacted the Cubs about Darvish before he made the deal for Lynn....or after, for that matter.

I'm not sure Hoyer is qualified for the role of a real GM but I'm certain he's not qualified for president of baseball operations.

isn't everything they do a baseball operation?

It's just title inflation, because generally people employed by teams can only be considered by other teams for promotions.

So many teams now have a President of Baseball and a President of Business. For the Cubs, that's Jed and Crane. In any sane world, they'd both be SVPs, and Ricketts would be President (for some other organizations President and Managing Partner).
