The Reds watched a special two hour episode of "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" on the Fox network as they drubbed The Brewers 11-2 Friday night. Reds outfielder Corey Patterson, who found he was NOT smarter than a 5th grader said his team was not distracted as the final score would seem to indicate.
"Jeff Foxworthy is the dude," Patterson said as his team mates filed by after the win. "We didn't need a whole lot of focus tonight. I'm not sure who we played out there but they weren't very good. And I THINK they were playing two guys at first base. That's against the rules!"
Patterson was informed that the Reds played The Brewers, a team still alive in the race for the NL Central Championship.
"C'mon man you got to be kidding,"Patterson chuckled.
The Brewers, fresh off an afternoon of laughing at the beating taken by the division rival Cubs who were beaten by St. Louis by 6 runs, found themselves besting the Cubs deficit and losing by 9 runs.
"I'm starting to think we might be in trouble,"said JJ Hardy. "It's going to be a challenge to win all the rest of our games with this bullpen and have the Cubs lose every game. But hey,we're in it until the math says we're not."
A reporter mentioned that perhaps The Brewers should focus on the wild card race they're losing but Hardy discounted the notion.
"We're not after the appetizer-we want the main course."
That remark brought Prince Fielder and CC Sabathia running into the press room, only to leave in disappointment.
If the Cubs lose to the Cardinals tomorrow afternoon, their magic number will drop to "0" when the Brewers lose to the Reds who intend to watch a "Full House" marathon in the dugout next game.
