(AP) The New York Mets have filed a protest with Commisioner Bud Selig charging that the Cubs are not taking today's regular season finale with the Milwaukee Brewers seriously.

With the division championship wrapped up for a week,the Cubs are trying to stay interested and have named the mother of second sacker Ryan Theriot to pitch in relief in the 6th inning. It will be the first appearance by a woman on a major league mound in baseball history though during a star crossed minor league career, it is rumored CC Sabathia pitched in a dress as part of a minor league promotions night.

"I'm taking a lot of ribbing," Theriot said."The guys are saying 'Your ma already developed a screwball so this should be easy.' That's real funny."

Meanwhile,the Mets, who desperately need the Cubs to beat the Brewers today to give the New Yorkers a chance to win the wild card ,registered their displeasure by phoning Cub manager Lou Piniella's hotel room at 5 AM to ask if he had "Prince Albert in the can."

For his part,Piniella downplayed the Mrs Theriot controversy by saying
"She can't be too bad because she's scheduled to start for Detroit against the White Sox tomorrow if need be and I kind of like her chances."
