I listened to Murph today and 99% of the callers were already praising this new ownership. However, there was one caller who nominated Murph for tool of the week because of his over-the-top excitment & praise for this new owner who has done absolutely NOTHING yet, and still needs to go a few more steps before actually taking over the club.

I am as happy as anyone to get rid of the Trib Co & corporate ownership. I am also very optimistic about Ricketts becoming the owner. However, we could all be nominating this guy as tool of the ???? for many reasons. I hope not.

I just caution the fandom to slow down and take a wait and see attitude before annointing this guy for sainthood.

Now...you can all nominate me as a tool for listening to Murph! Hey...I was just listening going to & from lunch!

As I said, Rickets has some leverage, finally and he is milking it!

MLB fucked up this deal! If this was 1 year ago and MLB/Reinsdorf would have taken Cuban, this deal would be done and we would have Peavy and no issues.

Zell/MLB has 1 backup offer (Klaff) and I can promise you he isn't going to be any easier than Rickets right now, especially if they come to him and he knows they walked away from Rickets.

I have met Mr. Zell once on a lease negotiation and know many people that know him, the process of him only being able to deal with one buyer and not being able to communicate at all with another possible buyer is killing him. It goes against everything the guy has done his whole life.

If this was a $500 M building and Zell had a buyer who would not give on an issue, Zell would have someone go to one of the other buyers and ask them if they would accept the terms of the deal he had on the table.

The difference here is the "EXCLUSIVE NEGOTIATING AGREEMENT" signed by The Tribune. Any hint at any issue being leaked to another buyer would result in a nasty lawsuit and tie up the sale of this team. Notice that Zero details of this deal have been leaked. Everyone involved knows how bad it could be.

BF...are you saying there are complications or issues with finalizing this deal with Rickets? I have not really heard anything since it was announced that the Rickets bid was selected.
