Going into this season I am of the attitude that I really dont care what happens this season and am just waitng for October. I dont feel excited nor do I expect I will be at any point because of the last two post seasons. I'm sure Ill watch most games, but it will be with very guarded optimism.

Started getting this feeling after 2004 to be honest.

October is not a given.

frank, THAT is something we are in agreement on. way too much assuming that the cubs are getting in the playoffs in my opinion, and not just on this board - from a lot of "experts".

On paper, the Cubs are still the best team in that division. But (and yeah I know you could say this about a lot of clubs), they are one injury away from being in a real dogfight. You know Harden is going to go down at some point. An injury to another starter really hurts them. As does the question marks at CF and with Bradley. Also, who knows how Marmol will do in the closers role. Cub fans remember LaTroy Hawkins...he was as dominant a setup guy as there was, and he just couldn't deal with closing games. Kerry Wood is able to do that.

i say this every year. but it doesn't mean i don't feel anything when i watch a game. if they win, i'm still pretty happy and warm inside. if they lose, i get pissed off and it ruins my day. this is me as a fan.

october is never a given for any team.

this is a critical point, and i dont think it is a foregone conclusion he WILL be the closer. right now, i would keep him as the setup guy and closing with gregg. marmol is just SO good at what he does, id hate to see that part of the pen get fucked up just because of some sense of entitlement to the closer position. i think the pen i stronger with him as a setup guy, at least until gregg shows he just cant close at all. i think gregg could be pretty solid for the cubs.

No, I don't feel that way at all. I am going to enjoy good Baseball in 2009 all year, just as I did in 2008. I will hope for a far better post-season, but I will enjoy the whole year....providing they play as well as they should and can have another great regular season.
