Before we consider this deal DONE, we must acknowledge all of this means that the 2 sides have signed a contract which I am sure has a 60-120 due diligence period that allows the buyer to look through the books, inspect the field etc, of which they probably can get out of the deal pretty easy. After a certain number of days, they forfeit some of the money put up.

Who knows, maybe they are so excited, they just need a week and they are ready to go!

Regardless, none of the buyers have been in a position to negotiate anything until now. This is an exclusive agreement to conduct a transaction and finally some leverage comes to the Buyers side. This will mean that during the negotiations if Ricketts states something they want and the Tribune doesn't like it, they can't go to bidder #2 and ask them if they want to buy the Cub before they kill the deal with the Ricketts family. I am quite sure this is a breach of confidentiality and would result in a huge legal mess with then no sale in the future. So while it might happen in smaller deals, this would be too much to risk .

I hope it gets done and the Ricketts family starts doing some things like firing Mark McGuire, Cubs Business Douche, and asking the State for some money.

Let me update this. They do not even have a contract. They have an exclusive right to negotiate agreement.

They are working on a contract.
