Seems like Lou doesn't want to play Fukudome against any left-handers, even though he's 2nd on the team in OPS (after Ramirez), and the offense is struggling badly right now. But Fukudome's numbers vs. left and right-handers are nearly the same! (.741 L / .796 R career).

Meanwhile, he's playing Fontenot against a lefty today, and his career numbers against lefties are awful (.588 L vs .832 R career)

Edit: I guess with all the infielder injuries he doesn't have a choice but to play Fontenot (except Fox who apparently is an awful fielder?). But still, he's sat Fukudome too often this season already.

Edit2: of course I post this and now Reed Johnson and Fontenot are responsible for all their runs so far today. But I still maintain the argument!

i think you are exactly right about the infield - it is so thin, you really dont have much choice but to go with fontenot every day. blanco hasnt shown any bat, and this team needs offense. the last few games, fontenot has been hitting very well, and lou cant afford to sit down any hot bat right now.
