what is wrong with him saying that he wants to retire after his contract is up? in 5 years this current team will have been totally blown up anyway.

Who cares? Say you're gonna retire when the time comes. No need to say "in 5 years I'm done" so that the media has something to talk about. Don't touch the umpire, get the airport on time, and STFU and pitch.

Amen to that.

i agree with the who cares part, but why does him saying he is retiring after this contract make anyone say STFU? i mean, why would that bother anyone? im too busy watching this season to give a shit if he is around in 2013 or whatever. i will worry about 2013 in the off-season following 2012. like i said, this whole team will be long gone by then.

I dont think this makes him a douchebag. I think agree with mofo. I dont care one way or the other, but good for him if he doesnt define himself by his career. I dont really see this as newsworthy right now though.

Carlos does some douchebaggy things, but saying he will quit after five years is not one of them.

This is no different than Ozzie wanting always saying that he will quit or retire.

It's only douchebaggy in that I doubt he'll quit after 5 years. Who cares what the media talks about anyway? They're the media. They can talk about this instead of all the things that truly make him a douchebag or how underwhelming the Cubs are playing right now.

He's an emotional manchild. I'm sure he's going to grow up a little before the end of his contract.
