Well, the Cubs go into this series the definition of a mediocre team (so far) this season....they are exactly .500 at 30-30. Last year, the Cubs were on their way to back to back divisional championships and a 97 win season. Flying high...The Sox were on their way to scratching and clawing their way to a tie for the division, requiring a 163rd game, to decide who had to be crowned the winner of the worst division in Baseball. Both teams are decidedly worse (so far) this year and so it is with much less excitement that this inter-city rivalry gets going. In past years, it was often said "when these two teams get together, you can throw out the records". This year, when these two teams get together, you might want to just throw out the tickets! A lot of bad Baseball on both sides of town. I hope the Cubs can catch a spark this series and get started on a good long string. There should be plenty of spirit in the ballpark. I just hope it gets the team out of the doldrums and back to playing the way they are capable of playing.

Tuesday it's Danks against Zambrano. Z has been outstanding of late. I just hope he keeps with his calm demeanor of late and continues to prosper. Danks has been up and down this year. But better of late also. It should be a well pitched game. Wednesday will feature Gavin Floyd vs Randy Wells. Wells has a stellar ERA and yet remains winless. Floyd has been better of late, but still sports an ERA just barely under 5! Plus, the Sox have never faced this Cub rookie!!! Thursday's wrap-up, has Dempster vs Contreras. Jose Contreras started the season throwing batting practice and lost 5 straight. But since being recalled from the minors, he is 2-0 and has been outstanding. He was named last weeks pitcher and PLAYER of the week. Dempster is 4-3 with a 3.87 ERA. He generally gives the team a chance to win, but if Contreras is on, the bats are going to have to wake up. I like Zambrano in game 1 and Wells in game 2, but if Contreras remains sharp, we might have to settle for 2 of 3. A month ago, I would have celebrated the Cubs getting to face Contreras, knowing they would likely smoke the old Cuban. Now, it's not such welcome news, that he's going to pitch in the series. Go Cubs!!!Lets get a long win streak started....

People sure are obsessed with the former hot dog guy. Who cares? I would guess it would be a former Cub that will sing. I think they pull out the stops and use very popular ex Cubs, rather than the York high school 2009 cross country state champions, or something like that. Maybe use ex players who played for both teams. they will have 2 of them (Santo and Steve Stone) in the park already-very handy....

the cubs SHOULD be able to capitalize offensively against 3 pretty mediocre to bad starting pitchers in the series. but then again the way things are going you never know

Agreed the pitching matchups seem to favor the Cubs but who would have believed it Contrares has been lights out lately and the Cubs offense is just awful. I would love to predict great things for the Cubs here but I think they will be lucky to get one game. I still think its weird that they have two day games for this series those of us who are stuck at work will have to watch on the internet.

I'd just like to point out to Steve that the Cubs are closer to last place than they are to first.

I don't get a warm & fuzzy feeling. For some reason, I think the Sox will put more emphaisis on these games (reflection of Ozzy)....and the Cubs will continue to muddle through the season (reflection of Lou).

I did like the "hustle play" from Derek Lee the other day, and we need to see more of that. A little life PLEASE!!!

My dumb comment: Both Chicago teams are playing like a reflection of the Chicago weather. Wet, sloppy, cold, warmer, cold again, one hot day, cold again....Inconsistent.

As a Sox fan, I can tell you that we have as little idea about Contreras as Cubs fans do ... you could be facing Cy Young or you could be facing Jose Lima - nobody knows! If that forkball is working, he's nearly unhittable.

If it's not ... it's a sure tonic for the Cubs sick bats!

I'd like to refer you to Gavin Floyd's stats from his last five starts and Jose Contrearas' last two.

Not to mention how the Cubs have not exactly been tearing the cover off the ball the past few weeks.

That's all going to change now that the hitting coach has been fired though...

I'm going to guess Major League Baseball. I'm sure the bars/restaurants etc in Wrigleyville rather have it over a weekend as well..

TV COVERAGE - If you can, the Sox are on comcast...the cubs are on wgn....So if you can dvr both or watch both because we may get yet another "HAWK SUCKS" moment where Len & Bob will be calm & PROFESSIONAL and understand that the umpires may make a call of "interference" or something and then you can switch over to the Hawk and hear him cry and shout & pout & yell "BS" and accuse the umpires of making something up....and all the while the dumbshit Hawk has no clue what is going on. Hawk = UNPROFESSIONAL !!!

Too hard for them to sell $6.50 beers in the stadium if they don't open the gates.

The SCORE's Laurence Holmes is holding court right now, and had NBC5's Ginger Zee on in the first 15 minutes of his impromptu "Me Show" once the White Sox/Cubs' game was rained out. LoHo was talking about watching Ginger around 5:15p or so discuss what looked like a lot of green on the Doppler Radar and that he heard Ms. Zee not being optimistic concerning baseball being played tonight.

Tonight's rainout has slightly altered the pitching rotation for what's now a 2 game series. Carlos Zambrano won't start the game tomorrow afternoon at Wrigley for the Cubs, but John Danks will still get the ball for the White Sox. Canada's own Ryan Dempster, eh, will toe the rubber for the aging Lou Piniella instead. Gavin Floyd will start Thursday afternoon for the Sox, with Jose Contreras starting the weekend series Friday night at Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark.

Really? That seems very odd. You'd figure at some point this summer, both teams will be in Chicago (maybe one ending a homestand, one starting a homestand) and off on the same day. I know the Sox are off that Thursday after the AllStar game.

I'm in favor of the day/night split DH, one game at each stadium next weekend. That would be fun.

I heard that the Mets/Yankees did that and I can't see how that would be a real problem. I would think it would be nice for both teams to get it out of the way. For fans, it would be a blast.
