I got the DVD and I watched Kerry Wood's performance. He struck out the side in 5 innings. The Kevin Orie play was a hit off his glove, but a better third basemen with more range makes the play. The Astros had 6 guys batting about .250, including Derek Bell hitting just over .400 at the time (it was early in the season). Wood wildly beaned Biggio, who tried to duck and got hit in the elbow pad. There were 2 flyouts to the outfield. There were two groundouts to short. The pitcher made a sacrifice bunt. There was one groundout to Morandini. 1 foul flyout to Grace. I would have to watch the Buehrle game to compare. The other thing I noticed was that there were hardly any fans in the park (15,000 announced attendance) and Steve Stone had an afro.

As a Cubs fan how sad is it that we have to reminisce about meaningless personal accomplishments instead of celebrating championships. Did you get your Slammin Sammy Sosa DVD in the mail next.....which of his 66 home runs was your favorite.

The Kerry Wood 20K game is one of the best pitching performances in MLB history. It wasn't a team effort like most perfect games are, this was a single man completely dominating an entire team. I still get goosebumps every time I watch it.

A Championship would be nice but I'm not going to turn my nose up at some the best memories I have as a Cub fan. The Kerry Wood game was great and Sammy's 60 HR series were a lot of fun. I have a copy of the highlights of the 20k game on my HD. Every adjective people use to describe pitches, filthy, nasty, unhittable... don't even do justice to what he was throwing that day.

I am not saying that it wasn't a dominate performance or that Sammy's home runs weren't majestic. I still fondly remember the June where he hit 20 HR's. And I agree that the Wood game was amazing and he had electric stuff. I guess that the state of the current Cubs team: 2 straight playoff sweeps and the Bakeresque flop that this season has been has me feeling quite like the Grinch when it comes to Kerry Wood 20 strikeout nostalgia. Having said all of that I stand by the tenor of my original statement, I will trade every great dominant Cubs performance of my lifetime for one championship. Sometimes I think we as Cubs fans lose sight of the forest for the trees.

But no one can make that trade so what does that matter? Sometimes I think we as Cubs fans lose sight of the trees while looking for a forest. In the end it doesn't matter if anyone sees the forest or the trees or if it's like a tree falling in the forest, and no one's there to see it. It's up to management to see the forest, not us.

Wow that was alot of tree metaphor but I see what you are getting at. At the end of the day I like good baseball and the 20 strikeout game was exactly that so I will try my best not to begrudge people for celebrating it.
