I'm having a hard time understanding you. Could you rephrase that in 3-4 other ways?

So you have contradicted yourself. You called picking up Rios a great move in a prior thread, but then say yes, it more or less fell in his lap.

Just because Rios fell in his lap doesn't mean it's not a great move. A bunch of other teams must have had the opportunity for Rios to fall in their laps but passed on it.

Understood...but Frank seemed to diminish the acquisitions of Lee and Ramirez as falling into Hendry's lap but called the Rios pickup a great move. If the Rios acquistion is called a great move by Frank, then picking up Ramirez has to be called great if you want to be consistent.

Christ.

The Pirates and Marlins were basically saying to the Cubs, "Here, take these guys!" so a trade was worked out. I guess that is "GREAT!"

And the Jays weren't when they basically said "Take this guy off our hands" when they gave away Rios.

And you said it was a great move.

Your story only works if those two other teams have a reason to work the Cubs and only the Cubs. They don't, so therefore any other team (say, even the Sox!) could have worked out a trade as well. The Marlins had just won the WS, not exactly like it was a move they HAD to make.

Try a different angle today big boy. This one's not working for you today. In 30 minutes, you can nitpick something from game 1 vs. Pittsburgh.

You lost today, kid. Doesn't mean you have to like it.

At least Frank had a great line though:

I would argue the Harden trade deserves some credit, too, but I know that's debatable. Still think he's a pretty terrible GM but his track record is not without merit.

1. Ram has never showed up
2. D.Lee has not been the same player he was after his injury
3. Soto
4, Lily remeber Houston?

Wow. ARam has never showed up? He leads our team in GW hits. He's been the best player on the Cubs since he put on the uniform.

D-Lee is having an amazing season and has been solid his whole career. Do you expect him to live up to a career year every year? That's why they call it a career year...

Yeah Soto has been terrible...fuck him for winning rookie of the year and then getting hurt this year.

I'm glad you're basing the Lilly signing on one series. You do know he has 41 wins and has made the All-Star team in his tenure with the Cubs right? Do you just say things without knowing anything?

Dempster is a fine 4th starter. That's not even debatable. His contract may be a little big, but he got what the market dictated.

Go look at something shiny and stop talking about baseball. You don't know shit.

Hendry panicked over 3 games at the end of the season and turned a 97 win team into a $140M pile of suck. He deserves to be fired.

i like that hendry applauded how bradley has been so much healthier than expected. did he expect him to miss 60 games through the first 100 instead of 30?

Bradley has been a lot healthier then everyone expected. I'm not really sure how this blows your mind...

The Bucs were definitely a target in the past but I think they have changed their gM recently and he's actually making good trades to improve the club.

In reality the majority of the moves prior to this last offseason were at worst neutral (meaning at worst not bad not good just meeehh). And this offseason he was under a lot of contraints.

Obviously stealing Ramirez in broad daylight was the best.

I think the Gorzellany trade is going to wind up being a good one.

I think he deserves one more year and see how he repairs the team this offseason and hopefully it won't be under constraints or really bad ones.

And as far as Hendry goes, he is hardly a bad word for a rear end.

I thought, if they were looking for payroll flexibility, that they should have passed on Ryan Dempster this off-seaon. He had a very good year last season so their reasoning on bringing him back was clear, but I thought it was a career year, and wouldn't have given him $13-$14 a season. I would have let him walk.

I think the Harden trade is questionable. He can pitch, and pitch well, but the instability he brings to the rotation is very bad.

BTW, this off-season, do they look to move Derek Lee if they aren't allowed to expand payroll? He's coming off a very good season, and could bring in some younger talent.

i still think the harden trade was a good one. what are sean gallagher, eric patterson, and matt murton doing?

murton got traded to colorado where hes done nothing. sean gallagher was traded to san diego where hes done nothing. and eric patterson is worse than his brother if thats possible.

BD, I agree about Dempster. Last year he benefited from high run support and a low BABIP. Letting him walk would have been the smart move on a tight budget, but he still provides some value as a durable, mediocre starter.

Agreed with JasonB on the Harden trade. They gave up spare parts to get him and he's been serviceable at worst, brilliant at best. Not a long term solution but a good guy to have on a playoff run.
