I was the first one to jump all over you with your bad start and I wanted you gone. You proved me wrong and are on your way to a 30/100 season.

I wanted Hoffpauer BUT I was also for giving DLEE a chance first. I like the guy & am very happy for him. He should still be traded if possible. Let's do it now, before his value drops.

I like D Lee but the problem with him is he's not the #1 guy who'll take you to a WS. he's like a Scottie Pippen type. He needs a solid #1 superstar to play alongside him. I know he won w/ the Marlins, but that was a whole different animal in 2003.

You can't just say trade a guy without saying what you are looking for in return. Of course you want the best deal, but what if the best deal you can get is Brandon Inge? What if it was heads up for Rick Ankiel? Hank Blalock? What if the very best offer was Elijah Dukes.. do you still want to trade him?

Wherever the line to appologize is, I won't be in it. I was wrong about Lee. I didn't think he still had a year like this left. That said, his is one of the very few positions where there are replacements available to do the job for a hell of a lot less money (Lee makes 13.5 million this year, 14 next year). I would trade him even if it brough just a decent middle relief pitcher in return. You put Fox and Hoffpauir at 1st (Fox probably gets the bulk of the AB's) and spend the extra 12 million on upgrading SS, or some other (I would move Theriot over to 2B) position. If they don't feel they can part with Lee, he only has 2010 left on the contract. Let him play out his last year (playing for a new deal ought to ensure good numbers in his final year) and wave goodbye. He's getting too old and makes too much money to think of an extension. This is really the first real good year he's had since he signed the big contract.

while i agree you dont resign Lee after his current deal theres no way id rather see a fox/hoffpauir combination at first instead of the solid all around player in Lee over there with his glove and still obviously capable bat

I think you keep Lee until the trading deadline next year and evaluate where the team is and go from there. He does have a no trade (not sure how limited) so your hands are tied to a certain extent. This guy still has a pulse and does have heart, so he is more a part of the solution (at least short term) then the problem. That being said, if you could move him along with a bad contract(s), which is doubtful if you put Soriano in that sentence, then you have to consider it.

Now we just need a thread where CoF apologizes to Ted Lilly.

D Lee has his best years when the Cubs suck.

I dont know what that means...

I dont like him anyway...he lost me when he agreed with Obama on Cub fans.

I'm sick of this whole crew. What has D Lee or any of them done in the playoffs. They all laid down. Is it time to break up the team and start over? Do what the whitesox are doing? I'm sick of Aramis too. Pitching need to get some reliable starters.

the cubs starters have been some of the most reliable in the national league the last couple years. in fact that has been the one bright spot this year is the excellent starting pitching for the most part

D Lee

I apologize for never being able to respect you again after you pussied out against Chris Young. Biggest wuss move I've ever seen. Then you went on to insult me and cub fans in general with your stupid comments about real fans. Youre a decent player...but havent done much for the whole WS thing here...I look forward to your departure.

Sincerely
Myself

Im not a huge Derek Lee guy, for reasons that RPB stated above, but if you are blaming D-Lee for the playoff suckage the last two years then you are severely misguided. The guy hit .333 in the 2007 postseason, and .545 in 2008. Find a new whipping boy.

I am not going to apologize for my D-Lee disdain. I still think he is soft. I have no use for him and wish the Cub could trade him and get something in return. Jake Fox would be a much better value for the position.
With the lousy contracts on the books, it would behoove them to find value at any position they can.
Hendry has screwed the fucking pooch.

When DLee isn't hurt, or playing poorly at the plate (which is MOST of the time, factually speaking), he is a tremendous value. He is an exceptional fielder, a solid hitter. He can run. Saying Fox represents a better value is totally ridiculous.
Given the clowns they got patrolling the corner outfield you'd think you would want an outstanding infield. Since we've got Fontenot who I've said is too droppy, and Theriot who is too bad rangey and too weak armey, you need 1st and 3rd to be solid. Fox may be cheaper, but he's no better value. Unless he's a late inning pitcher, or can get the Cubs one.

wanting a guy like hoffpauir or fox over lee blows my mind. sure theyre cheap but youre going to get your moneys worth out of them which is probably about .250/25/80 and very sub par defense. ill take Lee in a heartbeat over plenty of first basemen in the national league. theres only maybe 3 or 4 i would take over Lee when hes healthy and hitting

You should watch baseball before you comment on it. Lee has been amazing in the playoffs the past 2 years, ARam is the best player on the Cubs, and the starting pitching has been incredibly consistent.
