Supposedly the Cubs are going to sign Rudy Jaramillo the Rangers hitting coach. He worked in the past with Soriano and Milton. I don't put alot of stock in hitting coaches but it could be worth a shot. Wanted to see what the opinions of Cubs fans (and Frank) would be on this.

I'm with you. I don't see this making a huge difference. I hate that they will make him the highest paid hitting coach. That just rubs me the wrong way considering the way this team has spent money.

I think a lot of the time, hitting coaches generally get too much credit, and/or take too much blame.

3yr/$2.42 for a fucking hitting coach?? No word on if Hendry included a no trade clause but chances are he did.

This means that there are no takers for Bradley and they've got to find a way to get that guy to hit.

In trying to see the positives, if this guy is half as good as his reputation this isn't absurd money. Puts him around 800k a year which at least isn't the highest paid coach in baseball. :?

Meanwhile, one of the best pure hitters ever to wear a Cubs uniform just walks around the clubhouse saying "hi"! That would be Billy Williams.

Not necessarily. It's more likely for Soriano. He had a couple good years in Texas working with Jaramillo.

I agree this is mainly for Soriano but the Cubs are hedging their bets that they won't be able to unload Bradley as well. It is expensive for a coach but whatever it's not like the Cubs were going to be major players in FA this offseason anyways hopefully he can get through to Soriano to lay off some friggin pitches in the dirt.

If this wants to impress the Cubs fans the first thing he should do is... Hit Soriano over the Fucking Head with a bat so hard that he doesn't remember to show up for spring training. Then he would be worth every penny that he's being paid!

So are we to assume that this deal was approved by Ricketts? It just seems odd that a GM who is on the proverbial short leash would be allowed to dole out a pricey three year deal to land Mr. Jaramillo. Does this mean Hendry still has free reign over baseball decisions, or is there at least the slight possibility that this decision comes from someone higher up the food chain? Maybe the long rumored Sandy Alderson or some other type of adviser/consultant?

It makes me cringe to think that the current brain trust just might have gotten to Ricketts and convinced him that last year was just a hiccup. If that's the case, then much like the Maitre d' in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", I weep for the (Cubs) future.

Yep, exactly what this is.

The hitting coach will have a bigger impact than you think. The question for me next season continues to be the bullpen. Gregg sucked and Marmol was inconsistent to say the least. Starters were not bad last year. Im holding out hope that Soriano was affected by his injury all season and that is why he slumped so badly. The Rameriz injury was a huge part of the offensive slump. I think the hitting will pick up and this can only be a positive thing.

As much as I hated the team, I do think last year was a hiccup. Also, St. Louis played out their ass all season. I realize its a big leap of faith, but I predict this team will at least make the playoffs next year. They certainly still cannot compete with LA and Philly though.

Have you ever had a job where you bring an entirely different approach and skill set than others?
You just can't ever impart that to others?
Some of these Hall of Fame players over the years never worked out as Managers or Coaches.
This isn't the fault of the Hall of Famer or the team involved.

Arguably THE best pure hitter ever, Ted Williams, was by all accounts a terrible manager.

It's not MOSTLY for any player. They signed him because he is widely known as a top hitting coach. It will be a huge shock to me, if Bradley is not traded prior to spring training. If he can get the hitters poducing like they should the 800,000 dollars, will seem like a bargain.

^^^What?^^^

This hiring has everything to do with an excuse to keep Bradley. Why was it "leaked" days prior to his signing? That doesn't happen with a hitting coach. why was it is all hyped up?

IMO it's because the new Cub ownership wants the fans to believe this will fix bradley. they don't want to trade him and lose money

I fear we're going to be fed the Moises Alou excuse. "Milton just needed to get adjusted to day baseball. He's not the first player to struggle in his first year in Chicago. We're looking forward to having Milton back and seeing the productive player and citizen we envisioned when we signed him."
