Cashner and Carpenter have plenty of that wonderful upside as well. This is the best our farm system has looked in a while, which speaks more to how bad it's been in the past instead of its current state.

I don't think they blow up the team right now - they have Piniella coming back for one more season, and have too many high priced veterans to start a rebuilding project.

I'm not saying it's going to be a Florida Marlins blow up but I wouldn't be surprised if a veteran like Lee, Lilly or Zambrano is moved for minor leaguers.

i highly doubt lee lilly or zambrano goes anywhere. lee was the cubs best hitter. lilly was the cubs best pitcher and zambrano just isnt leaving.

This team is old and extremely expensive. It's time for Hendry to get out from under some of these high priced veterans while he can. The window is closed.

Now would be the time to move Lee - I believe he has only 1 year left on his deal, and coming off a great season, they would be able to get back 2 or 3 good major league ready prospects.

If they were to do something like this, I still think they can be competitive next season as long as the starting rotation remains a strength.

lilly would be a perfect guy to deal if he gets off to a good start - this is the last year on his deal, isnt it? if he gets off to a good start, he would be a great addition to a contending team. i agree with dealing lee now if you can. you got what you wanted from him, a big year. if you can get a deal for him, i go for it. his value will only go down if he doesnt get off to a good start next year. the big hope is that Zambrano starts off lights out next year, and maybe they can work a deal for him with one of his agreed-upon teams (fucking no-trade bullshit). he to me is the guy that you might be able to get some value for if he is really pitching well.

i agree with the point about it being lou's last year though, they wont totally purge until he is gone, but if they arent kicking ass by the trade deadline next year, i think the club could start being dismantled. i think the cubs did a pretty good job of bringing up a lot of young guys this september to see if they had anything down there. i dont think the cubs are very rich in minor league talent.

INF

move Theriot to 2B
sign O-Cab to a one-year deal
Baker becomes super-utility guy
trade Ramirez, sign Figgins, and save some cash in the process.

OF

Fukudome to right, but I have no idea who comes in and plays center

Along with CoF and others, I wouldn't mind moving Lilly and Lee if they can get something of value in return.

if the cubs actually trade bradley for wells....that would probably be the worst thing they could do.

The Toronto Sun reports that the Chicago Cubs are eyeing Vernon Wells in a Milton Bradley trade.

"It's early on, but we think this one has some legs," said one Cubs official. "But they aren't the only team we are talking with." The Cubs' idea is to split the difference on Wells' $107 million over six years and Bradley's $21 million the next two years, with each team absorbing $43 million.

This makes zero sense. Adding years and money is NOT the way to get rid of a bad contract.

this would be a terrible move. i cant imagine they would trade for that contract. i mean, are they THAT desperate to get rid of bradley? id rather CUT him then absorb that Wells deal. this is the wrong direction to take i think.

Wow. I remember that "series" if that's what you want to call it...Phillips role playing as various GMs...that shit was brutal...

Garbage rumor - the Cubs (nor anyone else) are going to take on Vernon Wells deal unless Toronto is paying a large majority of that. He has not been very good since signing that deal.
