this team is not going to compete for a championship, short of divine intervention. get a new gm, back up the truck, unload as much salary as you can (without saddling yourself with ADDITIONAL bad contracts), and rebuild. bringing granderson would not have been enough. i pray that ramirez and lee and zambrano and some others come out swinging and pitching well and have great starts to the season, so the cubs can perhaps get something in return and start building a winning team from the ground up. this patchwork quilt of free agency has to stop, and i for one am glad that the cubs are remaining quiet this off-season.
If Starlin Castro turns out to be ready and is anywhere near the player many think he will be, it changes things a lot. But thats a lot to put on a young player. Josh Vitters is another guy that should be ready soon, but we have heard that refrain before. It is seldom that a team gets the chance to get a true leadoff hitter that can also play a position of need. Granderson fit that role, just as Brian Roberts did last winter. But Hendry has failed to aquire either and now the pickings are getting slim. Podsednik is available, but he in NOT a CF candidate and is not even a good corner outfielder. Granderson is an exceptionally good outfielder that does play CF. He should have been targeted. Plus, he's a Chicago guy, who was an honor roll student and a great "charachter guy". A perfect fit...

Who gives a shit about this, he would be here to play baseball.
They didn't want to unload their newly revamped farm system for a CF they would have to platoon. Why not just keep Fuk there and only have 1 OF you have to platoon. Granderson was not worth it for this team.
Brian Roberts was 2 years ago BTW
